Ok so i agree with you on just 1 thing mental illness is a real threat , however more and more developers get "depression" and "anxiety" and yet none of them come out with seeking treatment and yet after all the delays they don't offer any sort of explanation.
If what you say is true he would have paused his patreon on the first deadline he missed make a post that he has depression/anxiety and that he is seeking help and ppl would have understood, however up until this point the only thing he managed to do is take people for a ride adn then come up with the most common excuse there is nowadays.
Actually i'm calling bullshit on any mental illness he says he has he is just a greedy fuck.
Also people can live off 500 euro/dolars per month depending on where they live i am considered middle class and get a little bit more than 1000 euro per month in my country because i own my own apartment/car.
So yeah just stop simping for him please he has no fucking excuse

Well, we can't assume where he lives. What we do know based on his last project is that he seems to have a solid grasp on English, meaning it's likely that English is his first language or that he is at least very fluent in it. But even that can mean a lot of different things (an American who moved to southern Europe, for example). I'm just saying that there are a ton of developed countries in which $1000 (minus fees, taxes, fraudulent charges, etc.) doesn't even cover your rent, let alone the rest of your bills and disposable income.

Also, I'm not really disagreeing with anyone here. I think it's disgusting that people like Gumdrop are able to earn a living for doing nothing. Should Psychodelusional have paused his Patreon funds? Absolutely. The problem is more based on the people donating to these game developers. Maybe some people have thousands of dollars to throw away, maybe they're incredibly naive, maybe they genuinely want to support his future... who knows? Psychodelusional hadn't released an update in three months. You'd think his patrons would get the hint by now, but they didn't.

I'm not "simping for him", I'm just saying that greed is likely not much of a factor at all. But let's see if he delivers on his promise by the end of the month. If he makes more excuses, then we know he's completely full of shit.

My best guess is that he will actually release it this year BUT it will be about 10 minutes long and then he will take another year with posts every 3-4 months saying how he "is working a lot on it but his mental health, moving, his job, his cat, his dog, his wife's boyfriend, and everything else is really bad right now", so the same excuse all these scammers always use, to release another 10 minute update.

That's a good question that deserves multiple answers.

1) His previous posts gave timelines for when he would release his work, but they didn't really delve into why it was taking so long. This latest post was the first one that actually seemed genuine and personal to me, instead of him making excuses. Sort of like when you just need to get something off of your chest after holding it in for so long.

2) While I've been interested in this game's progress, I suspected it would take some time, so I never actually expected him to deliver the game by his estimated dates. I mean, think about it. Look at how long it took for the first release of Midnight Paradise, each release of Prince of Suburbia, or the latest release of Milfy City (which is still not out...). This is a common trend by game developers, so I guess I never really got my hopes up in the first place.

3) I've got a crapload of porn to sift through on top of my responsibilities as an adult. I don't have to worry about whether this one game will come out when I've got so many other games/"real" porn to check out. But for some reason, I returned to this thread last month and my interest in the project has been revitalized... a bit.

I keep reading and the more i do the more this sick feeling keeps settling in that this is some sort of Malise and the Machine spiritual successor here? The concept of that scam inspired someone to follow the footsteps, copy the scheme?

That's a good question that deserves multiple answers.

I agree and I feel a little bad for being too hard on him if what he says is true, telling him to put up or shut up. Even if it's possible that it's a scam, it's also possible that it isn't. My initial reaction become sort of an in-between reaction, not very mean but not very nice either. But if his mental health really is that bad, I shouldn't add to it. And I rather be kind to a scammer than mean to someone who might be close to doing something stupid to himself. Still I think he should stop accepting money until he releases something. Unless he desperately needs the money, it is really the best thing he could do.

If you've waited this long, you might as well wait until the dev's next stated deadline, which is the end of the month. He says we will have at least a trailer if not 0.1, or he will give up. Can't imagine him giving up on free money, but let's see how it goes. If he can't even throw together a shitty 20 to 30-second teaser trailer in 30 days then there really isn't much hope that a full game will ever be completed. That means either no motivation to work on the game or there isn't enough existing content to pull from. Sounds like it may be a little of both.

But that's the confusing part. He apparently has already created a full game called Dark Neighbourhood. Now, I've never played it myself because the render style seems off and the characters look butt ugly to me however it has some good ratings. The quality jump from his first game to this game is astounding. That probably has something to do with why this one has faltered. Overambitious + high expectations + too many animations + personal anxieties = dead in the water.

Never played that one myself to be honest and it eluded me. Hmm. Set too high of a standard and thought he'd emulate Philly or Cake? Both who came out with their 2nd title in 2019.

It overrides a few things that i've thought. For the worse i'm afraid. If he had experience, knew exactly whats expected and how its done.. then this almost 2 years worth of stalling while collecting the money is pretty much an Icstor or Eromancer indeed.

I'm willing to give him until the end of the month to see if he keeps his most recent promise although he has given me no reason to believe he will. I'm not a patreon of his so it really makes no difference to me...I'm not losing any money on the guy.

I almost want to give Dark Neighbourhood a try just to see what kind of writing style and storylines he came up with so I know what to expect from Apocalust, but those characters' faces....yeesh. The art is some odd cross between 2D and 3D.

A dev who missed 4 deadlines and wasn't able to honor a single promise in almost 2 years since this thread was created doesn't deserve your dedication.

If you think delayed games aren't worth your money do not support them and dl them 4 free when/if they come out. I've heard rumours that this website, where we're currently having this pointless argument, provides folks with the opportunity to do that very thing 100s of times every month.
