I always go for funny or compassionate choices. We want Skynet to like us.
but the options are not "good" and "evil" its critical thinking and empathy. its IQ and EQ. both are good (or i am terribly misunderstanding what they represent lmao)

It's been a while since I've played that, but I recall some options as being harsh or stern or dominating, while others being compassionate. I thought the differences were more empathetic vs. domineering. Not sure if I'm right though.

Chapter 7 now in development

Hey everyone!
Break was nice and got to unwind and recalibrate myself. This week I'll be gathering my notes and start organizing the events that'll be taking place as we get closer to The Expo. I'll also be working on the new locations such as Kapuletti HQ, the Autumn Festival, MC's permanent home, just to name a few. I was hoping to play around with more Blender stuff while on break, fix some of the animations. For example one of Kindra's scenes, the camera moved too quickly. June's hair was a bit sparkly, Reina's hair was a bit too dark. The farmer's market scene was pretty rough. Some growing pains working with a new program. But like all things, it gets better as you learn. Back to what I was getting at, my render box was in dire need of maintenance. As I was rendering the new main menu that Puggy animated, my waterloop tapped out. Very thankful it got me to the very end of CH6. But with everything that went on last year, I hadn't got a chance to clean the waterloop. It's all clean now, I'm just waiting new parts to come in. I ordered some quick disconnects to make maintenance much easier and faster. I'll be working on coding and the script in the meantime.
Before and after

Below is the Q&A
Will we be seeing the mini games in other paths or parts of the story? For example say we are teaching Artemis how to shoot a gun. Would we have the shooting range mini game?
There will certainly be more and with other characters. I'm just careful to not make them a focus of Artemis and more of a short break from reading kind of thing. I also try and add them where they make sense. But time is also a major factor. For example, in CH5 you were supposed to play scrabble/wordle with Artemis when Aiden brought out the scabble tiles. Time is something I consider, and I had to cut her minigame due to time constraints. So, there will certainly be mini games in other paths and parts of the story.
How do you select your beta testers?
Beta testers are people I have to be very critical with when choosing. It requires a lot of trust, which is why all the people in my beta team are people I chat daily with and have been for a long while.
What are the toughest and easiest challenges, specifically program or machine wise, that you had to face during development of chapter 6.
I would have to say Blender was a challenge. It's a whole other beast compared to DAZ and requires a lot of manual adjustment, whereas with DAZ you can mostly get away with just plopping a character and an HDRI to get pretty decent results. Matching the lighting, skin textures, etc. It was a challenge. Easiest part was firing up DAZ :p Just kidding, easiest is probably my workflow of importing custom assets and clothing. While some still give me problems, I can still work with them fairly easily.
Walkthrough?
I do plan on having one integrated into the game. It's just one of those things that's in the backburner because development always takes precedence. And a walkthrough is considered extra work that can be put aside while I focus on the core parts.
...had another question: theres an in-game app that lets you check your standing among the potential love interests, but as some point (chapter 8 i think you said) we will move into pursing a single someone (with the exception of a throuple) exclusively. does this mean that app will change as well, will it evolve, or will it remain a constant reminder of what could have been *for that playthrough?
The app is an evolving thing. Some trivia, I actually took the scale from Dragon Age: Origins' affinity scale. I plan on cleaning things up with the apps. The wallpapers I'll be adding a number and possibly sort them by chapters for those who like to track that stuff can track it. Once I fix the music app (I hope to get to that this cycle), that'll be back in the phone app. In regard to the "BIOS" for the love interests, that'll also get tweaks. Clean things up, have notes show up regarding that LI, etc. There are other things I plan on adding/changing, but post CH8, it'll remain as a tracker. Listing points, etc.
What made you start working on AVNs? Is Artemis your first and do you have any plans after Artemis?
Yes, Artemis is my first AVN. Those on Discord often see me talking about plans for my next project. Taking what I've learned from Artemis, the biggest change in my next one after Artemis will be at maximum 5 romance options. Working on Artemis, 5 seems like a great number to balance core story and sub-story. The setting is going to be high fantasy. For those concerned; No, I'm not working on it. Artemis already takes a lot of time as it is. I'm just jotting notes, crafting characters, settings, worldbuilding basically.
I'm a big fan of writing stories. When I was younger, I'd staple printer paper together and create comics. When I got to high school, I got into filmmaking and 3D animation. In college I did more of it, writing more scripts. Then I realized my creativity overgrew budget, so I had to put things on ice while I focused on my degree and career. During all that I ran into a site called VDategames and an older AVN called "Getting to know Irene" I think? (it's been years). I thought it was real interesting format and looking at the scripts I wrote, I always felt they'd work better as novels. Working with 3D basically means the only budget you need to concern yourself with was the hardware you render on. And thus Artemis was born. Things were very rusty in the writing department and my eyesight was betraying me, but I pushed through it and glad I did.
I'm wanting to work on an AVN. One of my struggles is keeping motivated and I mean when dealing with negative comments. How do you deal with that and still stay motivated?
Lol, you're not gonna like my answer...
To put it bluntly. Who gives a shit what negative people have to say about your work? That's their goal, to kill your motivation. Humans have been human'ing for a very long time and it's nothing new. Mozart, Leonardo da Vinci, all those guys probably had people heckling them. Even today we live in a world where a lot of people seem to hate everything these days. Can't read about a movie or show or game without the overabundance of "I hate x because it's stupid". Stop caring what you read that kills your motivation and focus on your growth. Remember, it takes a lot of work and effort to create something. It takes little to no effort to destroy it. It's why these people choose to destroy. So, don't let it get to you.
On the flip side. Do pay attention to criticism that's constructive. Something that'll help you grow or make your work better. For example, I got a lot of upset readers because of the firm choices in Chapter 5 when the discernment protocol mechanic was introduced. They felt you were being too mean towards Artemis. So, I took that into consideration and put a lot more focus on planning these choices out for her protocol. Basically, look for things that can help you. Even if you may not agree with it completely. At the same time, make sure you're staying true to your vision. It's confusing, I know lol. But you'll get it in time.
That wraps it up! Next week I'll be going over some pending items (Artemis' cooing sound, etc.). I just didn't want this devlog to be a massive infodump since I did the Q&A.
Have yourselves a great week!

There's been so much discussion over time if this was covered my brain surely glossed over it, but I'm doing a fresh replay, and I got to wondering as I looked at the lab and such when Kindra is showing the MC around, and there are the 4 tubes in the lab (of which Artemis uses one), and he asks about the others.

What I wonder is if those others were perhaps used in the past for Iniyah and Gemma. They don't seem to be as advanced mentally as Artemis, but she's had the benefit of the MC's reworked and improved Koko upgrades. They (Gemma/Iniyah) also appear to have fully completed bodies, which could easily explain why they weren't being stored in the main lab.

Thoughts, or something obvious I missed that makes me look like a bigger idiot than usual?

It's been a while since I've played that, but I recall some options as being harsh or stern or dominating, while others being compassionate. I thought the differences were more empathetic vs. domineering. Not sure if I'm right though.
one teaches artemis to be calculating and pragmatic. Like how at one point MC taught Artemis that bad words are a no-no under no circumstances and when someone would use them in front of her she would turn borderline hostile towards them "NO BAD WORDS" or something among those lines. that is not domineering behavior, that is simply a factor of MC explaining that something is bad and should not be happening.
the other teach artemis to be empathetic. While pragmatism is simple, you just explain black from white, good from bad, yes from no, and Artemis just need to follow the social construct we establish. "no murder, no harm, no bad language"... its simple. the empathy is more of a "show, dont tell".
Just like how you cant simply tell someone "ok stop feeling" or "stop crying" or "stop loving that person" or vice versa, empathy is not something you can just say "ok start feeling sorry for others" or whatever. its treating someone with empathy that makes them understand what that feels and how that looks like. practice makes perfect.

SO yeah i understand where you come from, one looks empathetic and other looks more stern and direct, thats cause in order to prioritize pragmatism over empathy as a human being you would be stern and direct. lawyer, cop, etc... they take that approach but that does not mean they are just trying to dominate others. lot of lawyers genuinely do their job to protect the innocents, lot of cops work in that line of work to keep the society safe... its not that they lack empathy, they are just good at following the protocol.

Another way to look at those two options would be objectivity and subjectivity. one is teaching artemis objective truth, other is teaching her to develop subjective opinions and tastes, but i dont think its creators intention to make it look like you are making either good or bad ai.
in chapter 6 you have option to make suggestion/prediction of what kind of social role would artemis potentially have if society accepts her. Fire figther, vigilante, companion etc.
vigilante would be fully discernment artemis, someone like batman who punish the evil and dont care about how it looks like as she lacks human emotions and ability to blur the lines between black and white.
Companion would be fully protocol, someone who put all their stat points into perception and social skills, who would use their robotic features to benefit of others. (such as being able to see their heart rate, facial features etc.) in order to understand how they feel and act upon it
Fire figther would be something in the middle, mix of both.

Probably but you took it completely out of the context on what it was used for .
i agree, its 100% taken out of context, but what i mean is that there is infinite ways to describe the sentiment and they chose this one specifically. :D

i just went back to reread the fencing scene and honestly it could go both ways.
initially i was convinced they cant be ai like artemis. For insance their jaws were fully functional and impossible to differentiate from a real person. That initially is not a strong proof for anything but the fact artemis that we know was the one kindra says her parents worked on for years is the one with unfinished jaw. remember, she says to MC how at first she thought her parents are building her a new sister so to me it makes no sense for kindras parents to work so much on artemis and keep kindra somewhat in the loop while also working on others in secret.
Now i know, kindra could easily be in the loop about the other two (or at least about what is in the other tubes) and simply not bother mentioning it to mc for whatever reason so posibility is still there, but one solid argument against it for me is as i said the jaw. Why would they do the proper jaw to others but not to artemis who seemed to be their main focus. Or is it that artemis was just a side gig while other two where their main focus and its matter of kindras perspective that she believes artemis was their life work?

Anyway, another solid proof against the theory of gemma and iniyah being like artemis is the fact when one of them fell on the ground during fencing she grunted. Ofc this is something that could be thought so its just another weak argument but it is still one more added to the list.

And to be honest, i would not give the other possibilty much thought if not for one fact. After she is done talking on the phone with kindra, kandice says "the fencing program is proving succesfull" and that line alone makes me think you might be right.
When i was just reading it for what it is, i simply assumed "fencing program" meant that girls respond well to training. (like how we say "12-step program for getting sober rather than computer program or app)
but now that i was looking for anything that would give away or hint at posibility of girls being like artemis that line felt different

EDIT: fun fact, i think google just flagged me as alcoholic for googling sobriety program to get the proper term (i knew its a program, i just forgot its called 12-step program so i googled it to make sure i got the facts right)
my ads look different now so theres that i guess :D

actually i have new theory about gemma and iniyah. what if they are not AI but VI and "fencing program" is what kandice sees in virtual reality (same as chess after blackout scene), and reason why she is interested in kindra and koko is because that would be the bridge between her VI and real world?

they aren't VI , one of them it's the face of a clothing line and the other has been making commercial for luxury cars and almost everyone in the city know who they are .
my theory is that Kindra's parents and Ava are alive but hiding because the military was trying to move 'em out of the way and give all their tech to twr , so twr continue making weapons for the military .
maybe that is the reason why a lot of blueprints and patents were missing and never give 'em to Kindra .

ok but its not like VTUBERS dont exist. Hatsune Miku literally have no body and was performing live on stage in "3d" projection. Vtubers have their own merch... what i am trying to say is that your arguments dont really disprove the theory as much as you think it does. It is valid point but its not absolutely counterargumentative to what i said.

I'll give you even more far fetched theory. this is the one even i dont like. it crossed my mind but i figured "nah, it cant be that" but why not share it anyways. Maybe Gemma and Iniyah were real once and something happened to them, some uncurable disease that took their lives, or rather would take their lives if not for Kandice and some futuristic technology that transfered their conciousness into virtual world (something similar to what A.L.I.E. from the 100 planned to do) so world knows about them, know they are real, they have history and real experiences in real world but now they are stuck in virtual reality. And "happy memory" that kandice sees is the one she reciprocated with her kids in virtual world thanks to her VR. and after seeing Kindra reveal the footage of koko she hopes Kindra can help her build artifical bodies for her daughters so that they can walk in the real world once again.

This to me is kinda more far fetched than just trying to colaborate with kindra to get the mainframe for her AI's.
But there are nuggets of proof that could defend both theories.

As for the theory of your own, i dont know about kindra's parents but i do believe ava is alive and strongest hint that defend this theory is the fact nobody ever left quarters on her monument.
