Hey everyone!
Apologies for the late post. I was working on some renders and noticed my batch had hung overnight. Made zero sense since I did a test render and it worked. Fancy hair geometry with dforce physics. Saving and transferring to my render PC, and the entire scene refused to render. Wasn't a vram issue (just two characters and a simple environment. My database is on a NAS and the DAZ settings are 1:1. After hours of troubleshooting, deleting the outfit and adding back...it decided to finally render but this wasn't a viable solution (Also, as long as I didn't save the file and open it again...it would render). I'm not going to open up each shot, delete, re-apply the outfit and come back to fix the next render I ended up opening up every shot and replace the asset. More DAZ bullshit and can't wait until I've fully transitioned to Blender.
Anyways, I decided to shelf the splitting of the Books for now. Each time I went back to work on it, I just discovered something that complicated the process more. It's not a feature that anyone asked for but is definitely something that needs to be done as I address an lingering issue, which is the total size of the game. Similar to how some of us don't think about dams until one malfunctions and surrounding cities are evaluating. Both books together will bring this next update to almost 25GB in size. So, I'm putting this aside until after this update is released. Like I said before, splitting the books and making them function is a delicate process. One fat-fingered move and it's going to break things and I'm trying to make this as seamless as possible on your guys end. So, to avoid any issues...I'm just going to put it aside for now and address it after this update when I've got more focus to execute this. As I said though, it's a looming issue that's already starting to effect people (particularly with slower download speeds), meaning I'm keeping this in mind but will address it later.
I reviewed the script and trimmed some fat. I know I can be verbose in some scenes. During my unwind periods, I've been getting into reading as well as some comics and starting a manga collection. I've been paying attention to "scene" length, or how long a segment is before an entire setting is changed. I've come learn 'scenes', people in the community are often referring that term to 'lewd scenes'. Growing up my hobby was filmmaking, so when I say 'scenes' I'm referring to literal scenes like in a movie. Anyway, pacing is something I'm trying to refine and reading, especially comics/mangas, gives me a feel of pacing. What I find myself skimming versus what engages me to read every word. Avoiding exposition dumps and weaving those elements better, be it visually or word play in scenes.
To maintain transparency, I want you guys to know there's still work to be done. I can't say how much until CH7 is beta ready, because I just don't know. Some scenes take longer than others. I often see estimating betas and release dates just puts a lot of stress and upsets people. So I've just chosen to not say anything until I know for sure I can hit a date.
It's Christmas this week, though I don't plan on doing much for the holidays. I'll be with my family for a few hours but that's about it. So it's normal week for me. Same goes for New Years next week. I'm not much of a drinker or a party person, so these next two weeks will be normal development weeks.
Lastly, enjoy a special holiday render. There's two versions attached to this post, one with the text and another without.
Stay warm and cozy this week and Happy Holidays!
