Might be your ransomware protection. To check, go to security, virus & protection, ransomware, manage ransomware, then allow app through folder; under "add app" there's a tab that shows the last few files blocked.

Well, Jess is a character in Dev's second game Babysitters (which happens after events in this one) - so I would assume Jess leaves eventually.

There is really no benefit to the Dev to revisit a game that has been complete for years. Unless it was to remaster and get a Steam release, but that would pretty much require remaking the game. Better to focus on their current game.
First hour or so of playtime my main thoughts are - Why does every pervy decision end the damn game. Any time you try peaking through a door or grabbing her pajamas etc you get caught or it outright gives you a game over. Also, WOW that apartment is a MAZE. Don't think its the best idea to use text arrows if you are also using object clicking to navigate, especially giving multiple views in each room. Constantly clicking the wrong area to get around ands its very frustrating. No reason to have multiple views of the same room. Should just be ONE bedroom view, one living room view, hallway, kitchen, bathroom and guest room. OR have the rooms listed at top of screen to navigate from anywhere. So tedious.

lmao I just imagined the dev coming back to this game and playing it only to get lost in the maze he created years ago, thinking "wtf did I make it like this?!!" Tbf every dev has a starting project for these sort of things somewhere

This may be my favorite Adult VN of all-time but it could use some basic fixes.
If I were the dev (or maybe just a fan with time on their hands), I would at the very least run the images through some AI to make the characters pop a bit more. Use a set model or seed for each character and automate a quick image improvement.
If you had more time and wanted to profit for a Steam release go ahead and redo it all in Daz.
I think the story is mostly fine but I'd add a few more options while also cleaning up some of the bad UI, pace near the middle/near ending and bugs. The end was kind of rushed on each path, IMO.
But that's all I'd change. Again, maybe my single favorite VN ever to this day.
