It's true, but it's easier said than done. It's a mentality and perspective thing that can't really be willed into being just by taking advice, you know? It requires a good deal of effort and practice. Most people aren't going to take on that endeavor, so it's just the stupid reality of this forum, unfortunately.
And see, here's where subjectivity comes in, because now that you mention that, it makes sense to me. I hate that guy's games, the writing seems super low-effort to me, and now I know why.
Yeah, but exactly that: it takes time and commitment, and sometimes that isn't even enough because there's a great deal of luck involved. Some devs just can't afford to sacrifice their time for little to no gain for long stretches, especially if they have other things they could be doing that are way more productive or beneficial (time with family, overtime at work, another hobby that could make more money, and so on). I'm sure a lot of it comes down to willpower too, but making a big VN is a time sink that could lead to no where, and no one realistically wants to carry that unless they're extremely passionate. Add to that the immense entitlement of users on this forum, and why would a dev want to keep coming back?
