So, gang, the is going to drop later this month.

Be Advised: This has been designed from the ground up with the latest Steam version of Bare Witness. That version is NOT available here, nor is it even available on Patreon. It ONLY works with the Steam release. Even if someone were to release the required file on F95, it will not work unless you have the Steam version of the game. So, if you want the DLC, you will need to get it from Steam.

Bare Witness v1.2s is in beta now. That version number will 100% increase before we push to live. Translators are working on fixing up the hints translations for all 5 other languages. The game has a whole whack of optimizations, a fully reworked Replay Gallery, a new Image Gallery of slockie special renders, better performance due to a Ren'Py game engine upgrade, and more.

If you've been on the fence about buying the Steam version, this is a great time to pull the trigger.
Well, I can't buy it again, but that does make good incentive to try playing the steam version again ...

No need to buy the game again if you already own it on Steam. The DLC is just a quick add-on to the game that automagically turns on hints. Then there's a new Preferences setting where you can toggle Enable/Disable for the Walkthrough.

Sorry if my post above was confusing.

No need, the first part of my comment was all snark. :p

Just a word of caution for those of you who strongly prefer the Patreon/Itch version compared to the Steam version: The old Steam version shared the same Ren'Py engine version as the other builds. That means that moving between them was perfectly safe. Now that v1.2s and higher Steam builds are on a new Ren'Py engine, it's likely to have the consequence of resetting your persistent file if you move from the Ren'Py 8-based Steam version back to the old game's Ren'Py 7 base.

That's not really something I can do anything about; so, I'd suggest looking at the the new Steam build (regardless of whether you buy the WT DLC) as a one-way street. That is, unless you're not particularly worried about saving persistence (or are willing to back up your R7 persistence).

So if I'm understanding this correctly, if I want to continue playing my older versions (some of which I may have not actually finished the routes yet) I need to save the persistent in a holding folder, play the steam version, then save THAT version of the persistent elsewhere and return the R7 persistent back where it was, and do this every time I play "the other" version?

I'd probably go further than that.

I always save off my RenPy folders to a separate drive in case something gets borked on my laptop, or in case I accidentally save over something I didn't want to - I always have a second source to go back and grab a clean save. This has saved me more than once, especially after I had to do Sancho gymnastics on a few VNs when he disappeared.

In this case (if I were to do the Steam, which I haven't), I'd save the Steam in one folder, along with the Steam RenPy folder with persistent and save files specific to the Steam version in one set of folders on the external, while I saved the non-Steam version and non-Steam RenPy folder, with the specific persistent and saves for that version, in a separate folder. Then, if I wanted to play one of them, I'd pull the appropriate version along with the appropriate RenPy folder over to my laptop/pc and play it there. The reason is that I would think the old version saves wouldn't be consistent with Steam and vice-versa. Maybe you could put all the saves of one version on pages 1-10 (or whatever) and all the saves of the other version on 11-20, and then just move the persistent, but that could get even more confusing.

Now, the Dev might be able to prevent issues if they were to create a differently named RenPy folder that gets set up when you install the Steam version - I had a couple of VNs do something like this when they went from "book 1" to "book 2" and upgraded engines - the old "book 1" stayed separate, "book 2" ported the "end of book 1" save data, and started a new persistent for book 2 in a separate, but similarly named, folder.

Any way you cut it, if you cross contaminate you'll probably end up with fucked up saves and cry a lot (then have to do speed runs skipping unseen text).

I 've bought this game on release on Steam and remember really liking it. I never expected for either the update or walkthrough to be released so many months after it was already deemed completed. Going to play it again soon.

This is the first I'm publicly mentioning it, but we're also including a free Gallery of over 250 customs, wallpapers, holiday and birthday renders in the next update. Just as a thank-you to our players.

Changing the topic a bit from the posts above, I want to ask if anybody else is pissed about one development in this game that had left me bothered. I have played so far 7 of the possible endings. However , in NONE of those endings, especially those related to Heidi and Athena, it has been shown WHAT HAPPENED TO PRISCILLA !? She was a great Kitty

Hello. I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, but I've been looking for the asset list for Heidi, Athena, and especially Mora forever now. I was wondering if anyone here had them? I found one of the devs comments from a couple years ago vaguely mentioning Heidi and Athena's assets so I at least have a general direction for them, but I can't figure Mora out. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Athena throwing a snowball at the MC's nuts while he's buried head first in the snow before helping him was fucking hilarious. love her so much.
