I tried going back to touji and nothing triggers its very confusing how the events are spread out
If events pass you can purchase them in the recollection room, no biggie.
It only costs money, which you can get by selling treasures which you can get after each time you rest at the mine.
Those events require losing to the boss in that town once. You won't be able to unlock the follow up scenes until you've done the virginity loss events in Kyo, but you need to lose to the boss the first time you visit the town
You'll need surf and strength, go to sands cave from 32, go down the ladder, go NE from the picture and take both paths.

I made a list of Yokai soul locations up to before you head off to fight the demon king. I'll update this list when I beat the game. If you see any that I missed please let me know, also some common enemies like the jellyfish aren't listed on every route as they repeat many times.

Since there was credits after the battle against the "Elite 5", it seems like that was the end of the main game, yet I can't unlock all the scenes from it without travelling to the DLC zone? Like I finished what seems to be the main story and I can't remove the whirlpools or get all of the main NTR guy's scenes

It says you CAN revisit villages with the shrinking plate. It gets awarded to you after completing part of main story in holy city and its in your inventory.
