Hmm, bad ends with no rollback and without autosaves.
I think developer can play this shit himself.

save it each new day, then if you die you don't have far to catch up but you are correct a daily auto save would be helpful

About the third city, you should be able to find the quest that unlocks it every 3rd modulo 8 in game day at Morya's guild, once you've ended the herb collection quest (which is your case).
For example: day 3, 11, 19, 27, 35, 43...
If you are indeed promoted, you will be able to accept it.

Sadly there is no quest. The day is 440 so it's divisible by 8. Morya's guilds mission board offers 2 F rank quests, wolf and cave dungeon. I believe I did both of those before.
