For once, they are actually making progress on the first level of the new chapter. The early access (that nobody has posted yet) has most of the animations in now.

Still taking far, far longer than they need to and milking their patrons, so give it about 20 years and the game will be done at this pace.

The new chapter is like, imminent. There's a playable version of it that the Patreons can get at. There were last minute changes. Like, deciding to make the level longer with more animations, and retroactively making old levels longer with more animations. And also a voice actor quit recently, so that's gonna need replacing.

It's honestly been pretty rapid-fire change to development, since they shifted attention from back end stuff to content. It's not like nothing was happening (even if some of that stuff was not well prioritized like holiday menus). But obviously, time invested in the game's function and tools is better to do sooner rather than later. The pace at which content is developed is considerably faster than making sure everything runs right and all the tools work as desired, but it's reasonable to focus on development over more playable levels.

Don't get it twisted. The modders can only do all the stuff that they can now because so much time was spent working on the back end of the game, including the level editing tools that take advantage of that. In fact, it's the modders wanting to do more elaborate things and wanting more control over what they were doing that got so much attention on doing that in the first place.

Since the devs are lazy af and barely update the game, I've decided to make a short list of my top recommended mods to you guys, some of which I think rival the ones in the base game. I don't like reskins so none of those will be included in this list. The links for the mods will be mostly from the discord and will be included in the title besides the fourth one which I couldn't find a link for but you can just download it in game and I'm sure most of you have played it already. Also, despite what my first suggestion might entail, this list is in no particular order.

My personal thoughts: This mod is probably my favorite one ever which makes it my #1 recommendation to you all, I've personally enjoyed it more than any other level in the base game (yes even more than Zoes) and everything about it is top notch. It has cutscenes, voice acting, great art/animation, very nice note placement on all levels and the expert difficulty is a real nice challenge if any of you care about that and aren't here just to goon. A few more things that make me favor it more over the original levels in the game is that the background isn't just a dark space and the song is an absolute banger.
Overall Rating: 9.5/10

My personal thoughts: Also made by shortstack enjoyer, this mod also has nice original art and animation but no cutscenes so it doesn't feel as dynamic as the first one but it still has it's charm. The note placement is not bad albeit not as natural/intuitive as I would've liked but it serves it's purpose well, the expert difficulty level is also not a bad challenge. There's also a few alternate versions of this level and one of them got a decent chuckle out of me but i'll let you experience it for yourself.

My personal thoughts: Yet another level made by the glorious shortstack enjoyer and this one is certainly interesting. Not the crossover we wanted, but the crossover we needed. There's not much to say about this one tbh, good art and animation per usual and a goodtime. The difficulty of the levels is also pretty well balanced out which is something this creator does well. It may or amy not lag a tiny bit but it's not anything too noticable. There's also a Futa version if you're interested in that.
Overall Rating: 7.5



4. Title: Katrina (downloadable from base game)
Developer: GalacticMichi
Based on: OC
My personal thoughts: This level is pretty stellar, very nice animation and voice acting and the difficulty selections for this level are okay, not too easy but also not really that much of a challenge imo. It also comes with an Espanol version and one with no voice acting.
Overall Rating: 8/10

My personal thoughts: Great art, animation, and a pretty funny story honestly. It has AI voice acting so that may be a turnoff for some of you but I think the art and animation more than make up for it. As for the note placement and overall difficulty, well tbh it's not that great, if you're looking for a cleverly designed level i can't really recommend this one to you. It's one of those levels that kind of just put in a bunch of random notes that kind of go in line with the beat but don't feel natural at all, but if you're strictly here jsut for gooning then this is great one.

My personal thoughts: I wanna start off by saying this level includes ZERO sex, it is however very erotic though and personally i found it pretty hilarious. Not much to say about the difficulty since the level only includes one. The note placement is fine i guess. Honestly skip this level if you're here just to goon.
Overall rating: 7/10, +1 point for humor

There are really a lot of good mods for the game, and I'd say those are some pretty solid picks. There's a few variations of the Retro Zoe mod too, where the instrumental is different.

I personally prefer to see mods with original art assets (or remixing Beat Banger's art assets). I actually used to do mods back in the olden days before the game became a more legit project, but I took a break from making them while the game (and its tools) developed. It'll be fun to get back into that at some point, especially with all the stuff they've put into the level editor these past several months. Playing within the creative limits of the old game and its fan-made editor was its own kind of fun, but you could really feel the restraints.

For the cat lovers, I'll add "Cathy Does It All" onto the pile to consider, which is literally just the animations from across the levels in the first volume repurposed so that Cathy is doing them.

I believe they're working on adding a level eventually about Surge, also from sonic. Chart is hit or miss in my opinion. There's an updated version someone did that makes it better but it still feels a little off to me.
