And financially it's way more profitable to keep his pace than to release updates faster. He is probably gonna ride the BaD train for another 4-5 years, then release a remaster or a couple DLC's a year after and live happily ever after.
I have the feeling that he can greatly expand his business (and profits). Just look at the Subverse Kickstarter campaign - the market is untapped.

15 scenes left in the free roam. Hpw fucking big is this free roam?! Fuck! Another free roam fest. Looks like this is the way of BaDIk going forward.

This debate goes around and around, but here are the key points why he doesn't hire anyone:
  • He doesn't want to.
  • He'll earn more money if he does it all himself.
  • He enjoys doing it all himself.
  • He's in no rush to finish it.
  • He's a bit of a control freak.
And that's pretty much it in a nutshell.
Don't forget that hiring someone also mean turning time he spends directly on the game into time spend on project management and so the time saving is not as much as most people think.

I'm willing to bet most people who keeps complaining about DPC not hiring someone has never spent a day managing a project and has no idea how time consuming project management is.

Plenty of ways he could expand, but you have to look at it from his pov and not from yours. He is the king of his own kingdom, doesn't answer to anyone, has at least 2 more seasons he can release on steam/gog, plus a full game once he is fully done and season 2 was already crazy successfull. I doubt money is gonna be a bother for him anymore at that point.

Sometimes money is not the most important variable anymore, but rather keeping the stress low and doing what you're the most comfortable with.

Yes I play on pc I already saved with mods yes but a long time ago and I never had any problem and yes I like walks on the beach x)
So I'm presuming you're talking about episode 9 here. Do you have the files "script.rpyc" and/or "script.rpy" in your "game" folder (or "game\base" folder)?

If you do, delete them and see how the game runs.

If you don't, try copying the attached file into your "game" folder and then running the game.

One question I should have asked earlier, did you download the game from here or Patreon, or is yours the Steam version?

I have the feeling that he can greatly expand his business (and profits). Just look at the Subverse Kickstarter campaign - the market is untapped.
If you look at this wise chap's estimates, DPC is earning between US$30K - $80K a month. So that's between $360K to almost a million a year.

Maybe he could make more money if he changed what he's doing. But he doesn't need to, and he doesn't want to. And there's a always a risk when you rock the boat.

He doesn't have shareholders crying that he keeps increasing profits, he's just a man and his family, doing what he wants while raking in a fortune. (y)

Hang on, the French patch is only up to episode 8 and the Interlude, so which episode are you trying to use it with? The script file I gave you is for episode 9.

The plot thickens!

It's really weird to me that this guy doesn't hire anyone.
He could've achieved much greater quality and speed if he did.
Plus he can grow his business this way and there is a lesser chance of him losing interest in this when he can outsource the boring tasks to underlings and concentrate on the creative stuff.

P.s. Talking about 4090s - it's kinda ironic that I bought one for my PC and all I play these days is Being a DIK.
Compared with another developer with a "TEAM" and cannot/will not get a game update out in almost two years, I think DPC is doing fine.

No point cherry picking to make DPC look good, we can always find some developer that sucks, but is there a gold standard developer out there? Is there one developer who is raising the bar, generating unprecedented amounts of content, a game that just draws you in, makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes you cum... ahem... anyway, who is the ultimate developer that all others aspire to be?

Oh yeah, it's DPC. :ROFLMAO:

any sharing in the game ?
Not yet... But JB may share his gf with us. :sneaky:

DPC lives in Sweden so he will definitely have to pay at least 50% in taxes if not more

I guess I just can't help but be curious about how would Being a DIK look like if they had more resources at hand.

Riona "We stop what we're doing, right now. No more new girls. None of this fucking "expanding" bullshit!"
Riona "We stick to the original plan, with the current girls and maybe Camila"
Riona "and we just sell what we need to sell, on top of our obligations..."
Riona "...then we cut our losses and we move on..."
Riona "...before this gets harder to keep up with."
Riona "And I'm still fucking concerned about who's been spreading that HOTs give free tuition."
Quinn "Don't worry about it. It's just a stupid rumor."
Quinn "We can dismiss that easily."
Quinn "We just have to make sure that the girls keep their lids shut."
Quinn "And we can't cut back, we're so close now!"
Quinn "Look at Sarah and Melanie! They are paying for themselves and more, at this point."
Whoever figures that Season 3 conversation out, is 98% closer to the final answer, because it clearly implies that they sell drugs/use their restaurant to a) first pay back some "obligation" and b) use the extra for their personal drug use.

So one basically has to figure out the following questions:

1) What's Quinn's and Riona's "original plan" ?
2) How can Quinn unilaterally decide to expand their buisness if they need a sugar-daddy for each girl ?
3) What exactly is that mandatory obligation they need to pay back first ?
4) What losses would they cut ?
5) How can any of the girls pay for herself if it's not about her drug use, since that's clearly extra ?
6) What are they "so close to" now ?
1. the original plan is for Quinn and Riona to achieve what Sarah and Melanie already have. Full payment of school fees.

Quinn: "And we can't cut back, we're so close now!"
Quinn: "Look at Sarah and Melanie! They are paying for themselves and more, at this point."

2. that's an interesting question because the sugar daddies pick the girl and not the other way around. That's why I think for Quinn to expand in a different direction, more along the lines of Kinky Cam and pornography. Maybe that's how Sarah and Melanie made their money too. There is a lot of money to be made with such college sex films and Elena already has a kinky cam going with JB. Sarah even wanted the IP address.

3. does not appear to me so that they must necessarily pay back money, but that certain obligations have to comply. What could these be? EP1 Gloryhole. The expansion is the restaurant itself, because the sex workers and the customer can see each other. If the whole thing is then recorded by spy cam, the money bubbles.

4. a Kinky Cam does not cost much money. But for college sex movies you need equipment that costs quite a bit of money. Elena organized studio equipment from the college for Halloween. I don't think Quinn can get that college studio equipment to shoot porn. Ergo, she has to buy this and thus go financially in advance. In which room can the MC use the service of Quinn and Riona?

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

5 Pornography. Maya said herself in EP9 so now is not the time for a camera and the MC also asks if that time will come. Stupid is only one thing. Maya's father Patrick already has some men's magazines that Derek also likes to look at.

6. there is one more question that should be answered and actually implies so that there is no sex scholarship from Stephen Burke.

Riona: "And I'm still fucking concerned about who's been spreading that HOTs give free tuition."
Quinn: "Don't worry about it. It's just a stupid rumor."

Either Quinn is lying to Riona or Quinn is just exploiting the rumor for her own benefit. But who started the rumor? I think Becky did. She found out about Sarah and Melanie's full tuition payment, but doesn't know how that came about. She started the rumor by wrong conclusions. She also rubbed the rumor in Maya's face in EP8.

In EP9, Maya explicitly mentioned the HOT rumor and Stephen only clears Maya's name after Maya said she was probably in the HOTs because of Sage. Stephen has to stop the rumor and that's why he can't give Maya a scholarship because if Maya becomes a HOT, the rumor would gain more credibility.

Sure, but check out this post from the same smart dude I referenced earlier (man it'd be nice to be as on the ball as that dude), he's done all the work for us, spelling out just what the average Swedish earnings are and where DPC stands among that.
But maaaaan I so don't wanna see DPC's power bill, 6 4090's running 24/7...that's gotta hurt. His next investment is probably his own power plant, can already see the headlines "DPC goes nuclear...literally" :D

The boring answer is a 4090 is pulling about 450 watts. So that's less than $25 a day at 0.361 U.S. Dollar per kWh (the Swedish energy price rate).

Edit: The electricity price in Sweden has almost doubled (that above estimate was a while ago)! Still, less than $50 a day. While he makes more than a grand a day.

Unlocked

I worked on the big free-roam event all week and estimate I'm ~70% finished with it. To some of you, it might feel like I've been stuck here for a while, but there are plenty of scenes and characters in it and I can assure you that everything is going forward at a good pace.
The free-roam has 771 renders, and I have 15 scenes left to work with before I can move on to something else. 8 of those scenes need writing and art; the rest needs art.
I mostly posed static renders this week, but I also posed a longer animation that I think will come out great.
I also produced two new songs I wanted for two specific parts of the episode. I wasn't sure if I would make any new songs for this episode, but I love how these turned out.
Meanwhile, my PCs are slaughtering my render queue. 16 animations remain in the queue, but two are very long, making up for ~3000 frames together.
I have counted six lewd scenes left to create for this episode, and I plan to work on some of them after the free-roam event to get more animations into the queue.
Have a nice weekend
Dr PinkCake
Well, after how in the last week he announced that this week gonna be about numbers I was hoping for a bit more detailed status update :ROFLMAO: , anyway, i guess he is around 3700 render overall, so far.

5) How can any of the girls pay for herself if it's not about her drug use, since that's clearly extra ?
6) What are they "so close to" now ?
For the below, the "original plan" is that Quinn and Riona are on the tuition program and want out. They can do that by paying back all the money they were given.

1) To pay back the tuition money, Quinn has set up a side business, pimping out "tuition" girls and selling drugs as a low-level dealer. She gets the drugs from her source and sells at a markup to the alphas, DIKs and various students. Riona is the delivery girl and gets her small cut which pays for her personal use. Other girls on the menu also can sell drugs for a commission though some may not. Primary source for tuition payback is through the restaurant. The drugs keep the girls tied to Quinn as their supplier and they don't have to risk buying in public where they might get caught by the cops.
2) Quinn is adding new girls to the prostitution fold only. For instance, Camila may not be in the tuition program, just hooking for Quinn for the extra money. Check the scene in Quinn's room when MC is stealing panties and they are both in front of the mirror; it sounds like they are talking about the glory hole and not something more intense. Quinn wants to use the proceeds from these girls to expand her drug business and pay off her tuition obligation before she becomes president of the HOTs so she can focus her final year on making bank.
3) Tuition, as detailed above, which becomes complicated due to Quinn's mismanagement of the drug purchases. Quinn runs short one month, tells everyone that it's because Riona has been smoking for free, but Riona gets angry when she is told that since she knows she's been covering her use expenses. When Quinn gets robbed it gets worse because she has little financial cushion to fall back on so jacks up her prices to cover the shortfall. The original shortfall was due to Quinn miscalculating or trying some new drugs that cost more (e.g. the syringe) but that aren't selling or that she herself is using more of. Riona is kept in the dark and can't understand how they can be short when she's pulling her weight.
4) Cutting losses may not mean just money. It could be that they have some girls who signed on who aren't pulling their weight or are giving away sex for free (Arieth maybe?) and potentially hurting their business. They only keep the girls pulling in regular money through hooking or drug sales.
5) Sarah and Mel are actively soliciting money for their services and probably getting it pretty regularly. Sarah can even get MC to pay to have her arrange 2 other girls to service him in the glory hole. They pay Quinn her cut and have extra left over even if they are using the drugs Quinn provides, which there isn't any indication that they are since you never see them using. They may or may not be on the tuition program, and even if they are they may be fine with the original arrangement and keep their portion of the money they get from the restaurant.
6) Quinn and Riona are on the original tuition plan and want out of it. They are close to paying back all the money that they were fronted so they don't have to bang old dudes anymore and can run their little business in peace, keeping all the profits themselves. Quinn wants more so wants to expand and recruit additional restaurant girls and sell more drugs using them as mules/resellers. Riona is risk-averse and just wants to stick to the original agreement so she can pay off her tuition debt; the bigger the operation gets the greater the chance they will get caught or someone will rat them out, like Mona could still do.

Thus endeth the epistle.
