This is strange because it doesn't say that in the diary during my run. I have to play this again and pay close attention. So we're writing about Lynette's diary from EP10?
If so, then there are different endings regarding the MC's family. Interesting. This also means that you can no longer compare the branches properly.
Recheck the diary. Remember it's being written by a petulant, probably spoiled, 18-year-old girl but she does tell some relevant facts.
Her dad makes her move away from her home to this hotel he is renovating. She begs him to let her stay but he says no. Once she's there she talks about what terrible shape it's in, and it's in the middle of a swamp. Who would do that to two women? Her father says he's not sure if he is going to sell their house. She complains to her mother who replies that she is "stuck" there too, so her mom can't get her back to her home either for some reason even though they both hate it. She asks her father if she can move back home and he says no, and when she asks if he is going to sell it he doesn't answer. That means he is going to do it but doesn't want to disappoint his daughter by telling her outright.
The scenes with Neil show that the hotel's plans are not accurate and a lot of building was done which wasn't right or documented. This implies that it's going to cost more to renovate than was planned, a lot more from the comments of the boss, Luis and Neil. Accidents happen that cause more damage that needs to be repaired (the flooding from the water main that's in the wrong place). Granddad bought a money pit that's going to cost him far more than he anticipated, and the location isn't ideal for a resort being in the middle of a swamp. It was a disastrous financial decision.
Neil thinks Lynette's family is really wealthy, but Neil is poor, so anyone with some amount of money he probably thinks is better off than they actually are, and Lynette's family may have been wealthy at one time but now isn't. His assessment of their wealth isn't really valid. If they had a lot of cash there is no reason for Lynette and her mom to go live in the run-down hotel, and her father would be happy to tell her it was only temporary until they could move back home if they did.
Jill's parents tell us they got a steal on the house because the owner was in bad financial shape and desperate to sell because there aren't many people buying houses in that price range, and with the time (19 years ago) tells us Lynette's father did sell the house at the same time he was trying to get the hotel renovated with all of its problems and cost overruns. He was over-leveraged and his only asset to sell was the house.
It's not a different ending with the branches, you just get more back story with Jill's path than any other one.
