Probably, has been a while since I was in college, but there's plenty of other college girls (and dudes) in this game with similar if not worse situations and each one in a way or another does one of 2 things, handles situation themselves and doesn't care about the others or helps others as much as they get helped
- Sage who's adopted has a pos brother, a nympho mother and schizoid father who are about to break up
- MC who lost his mother to child birth and has been living in poverty (compared to his peers) for all his life
- Quinn who (as far as we know) grew up just with her pusher of a father
- Lily who needs money and as such works as a stripper to be able and afford college
and so on, everyone needs some help at different stages (and it's usually the MC providing it), but they also deal with their shit on their own.
I repeat I'm not indifferent to her situation, but she could bust her ass a bit, does she really want to be indipendent? What's preventing her from doing it? She could join the strippers, or find another job on the side, heck I couldn't afford college (University really) myself, I was working 2 jobs and studying in the spare time which still left me enough time to party btw.
The fact she might be a stereotypical "hot college girl" works until you realize everyone rushes to her support, her girlfriend, her boyfriend/best friend, her brother, the head of the college sorority, the snobby rich girl, the adult friend of the snobby rich girl... They are not just feeling bad for her, one takes her to her adoptive parents to get a loan, the other contacts her legals to find support and the rest sneak into her parents' house to steal documents.

assuming boob size doesn't matter to you. Lilly probably has the best boobs in the game to me. I recall I really liked Nicole's and Josy's as well if I had to make a top 3. Tho I did forget what Nicole's look like exactly I need to look at them again but to lazy to look for a render just recalled really liked them. Other boobs were more or less forgettable to me

Honestly I give Maya a pass from my end on this. Cause no child expects their father to betray them like hers did, then to find out how he is checking up on her and trying to control even her college life or she is cut off must be stressful and depressing. While I do agree she could be working a job I think she is worrying about everything else way to much to do something simple like that.

Let me rephrase that blurb of a text of wall I posted, because I ended up taking a tangent...
The issue more than her is everyone around her, even considering her horrible situation, she's comes off as very entitled and one wouldn't expect that out of someone in her situation, specifically for the reason that usually this kind of person can't afford pushing even more people away.
"Luckily" the game allows her to be both, troubled (abusive father, sick mother and misunderstood lesbian) as well as the fulcrum of attention and support of a cast of characters who have nothing in common with her except being possible LI of the MC.
What she does in the game to get help for her horrible situation is:
- lies to her GF and to her possible new love interest (MC)
- Dry humps during the night the MC (who supposedely she's falling in love with) to get admission to the sorority
- Guilt trips her girlfriend in forcing the MC to either accept both of them or neither
- Sits in her room sulking
- makes fun of her twin's weird behaviour
- Paints everyone in the sorority with the same brush, until they beg her not to do it
