I think the idea is that he has changed, and Zoey makes that very clear. She mentions it a lot. Even the times the MC talks about his past we get a glimpse of that he wasn't at all like that, or the fact that he states clearly that he only had sex with one girl before coming to B&R. Like most VNs, we control the character during the game but not who they were in the past.
That's the core issue for me, it undermines every choice a player has make (if they went in a specific direction of course) until that point.
If that's who Tremolo really is it makes little sense for him to chase 1/2 of the women he can chase until then, and to be honest he should also then be allowed to react way worse to the whole Josy+Maya situation.
The choices didn't have to be related to Zoey specifically. Many DIK players were upset to see the MC crying. Why didn't the DPC just give the DIK MC a sad reaction instead of making him cry like a little girl? In the end, the past choices didn't serve any purpose in this scene.
This is why we have 15k pages of posts here, there is so much info to unpack in this game I wouldn't be surprised if there are still things undiscovered by general public. I remember the "Tara is mad at you" line, but I never really put it together why that is. I just thought Tommy was flirting with her or something.
Speaking of undiscovered things, I found something I never knew existed.
When I was researching Madame's stupid origins last night, I went through an old Q&A where I came across this: What was the punchline to Derek's joke he told the bartender in Episode 5? If you fail at getting the tequila after asking him to help you, talk to him again, and he expands a bit on it. I don't think many players saw this.
If you can't remember the joke, it's at the preps party where you're trying to get tequila for Lily.
The thing is, you can't fail at getting the tequila. It made no sense to me, like how could you? You just grab the bottle when the bartender is distracted by Derek, like that's literally it. But then I tried something I never ever thought to try: I left the room, and went back in. And no fucking shit, the bartender goes back to his position, and you actually failed. So you have to try again, and lo and behold, a brand new interaction!
I checked if there was a third joke if you failed once more, but no it just repeats the second interaction. Still, I'm amazed. DPC was right, I doubt many players saw this, because why would anyone ever leave the room instead of just immediately grabbing the tequila?
Bravo, DPC, bravo. I'll take that check now, cha-ching
There is also a different dialogue in EP.9 if the MC met Vinny before going to the bathroom. When the MC finishes talking to Elena in the bathroom he says to himself: "(Everyone wants to shoot me tonight...heh...)"
If you go to the bathroom first and then see Vinny you obviously miss that line of dialogue. Another reason why I hate free-roams!

Because he has changed. He's not the same person and you decide who he changed into. And Zoey leaving seems to have been the catalyst that made him change. People change, especially after having their heart broken.

Ingame explanation: Because when seeing her again, for a moment he was back in the past and all his emotions, from when she left, came back.
Real life explanation: Because there has to be a reason for her to stay in the MCs life because of future plans for the character. As much as some players wanted to be able to tell her to fuck off, that would have made it so much harder to have her included at the DIK parties or a reason for her to come a visit the MC. It's the same reason you can't get rid of any of the other characters in the game.
Sure, he could have had the MC just be sad but having the feelings bottled up for over a year, it feels realistic that he would break down even if he's become a DIK.
Be at peace, brothers. Zoey will have her path. If low tier bitches (whose name I prefer not to mention) are going to have it, why wouldn't someone as important as Zoey have it?
