Because of his cowardice, what he did to Sage was truly cruel. Her time at B&R meant nothing since she dedicated part of her time to Chad - someone who never gave a damn about her. Indeed, in those Manichaean stories, this thing of "divinie retribution" is the logic that follows. However, I prefer multidimensional characters because that's not how things work in life. If you dig deep enough (most of the time, not even that deep), everyone will have skeletons in their closets. In fact, those who believe that everyone must be impeccable, otherwise, they're evil and must be eliminated, are usually the ones who commit the most evil deeds. Just look at how the world has been over the last decade (or in the previous century; or... ever).
