So we get some insider info into DPC's mind. Mostly generic and expected answers, I did not expect anything groundbreaking but still, it is nice to hear how he approaches his game.

The most interesting answers for me are these 2, it seems DPC feels writing is his weakest link and he thinks he put some events too early into the game.

I agree with these statements. Firstly, no way I think he is bad at writing or creating a story compared to the VN industry but when you compare it to other aspects of BaDIK like renders, soundtracks, UI etc.. It feels writing is the weakest part of the game. I only say it since his standards are insanely high and every other aspect of the game is close to perfection for me. I'm glad he doesn't think he is writing the perfect story ever and does not think it doesn't have any flaws. It does.

The second part is about how he put some things too early into the game. I hope he is talking about mainly Josy and Maya reveal at the EP3 and library scene in EP4. I know he will never say it specifically but in my mind, this reply and him trying to retcon those stuff at EP5 says to me he agrees and means their events. Hopefully, he will think twice again before putting such events like that which are overly divisive and questionable without laying the foundations for their decisions properly.

I get that Josy and Maya are the Megan of this game and DPC needs them to keep the plot moving forward. But honestly, I didn't want to do anything with Josy since EP1 bank sitting scene where she confesses she actually cheats someone with the MC, and with Maya after that EP4 fiasco.

Hopefully, he will keep moving with the EP5 trend and try to retcon their only friend's route even more, them showing more regret with each update.

to be fair, All we have are "urban legend", from people's we can't prove what they are saying is the complete truth. we also don't know the tone of these "constructive criticism" everyone's a critic these days :ROFLMAO: . I read DPC all 34 comment, back in the days, HE does not seem an asshole, but He did get simple hatred for AL, not critism, pure simple shit talking, nothing more. Thats why he actually left. May be over the years, he became more tougher and now he simply don't give a shit anymore. I can't blame him. He does what He likes, he not let anyone to tell him otherwise, and if peoples like it, they support him, and those who not like it, he dont care about them, and dont try to kiss their ass.
I prefer this, better than those who are milking the users, letting them decide what content will be in the game, and it will turn out to be a shit fest because of that..of course this method only works because the product he is putting out , is actually good.
Well, if you want, I can show you the proofs of my bad treatment towards me and my ban from his sites, I have them and I have witnesses xD

Regarding the criticism I don't know, but regarding the issue of piracy or sites like this forum, he prefers not to know anything, not even as a method of advertising.

Brah, just no.. <Insert that bella thumb sucking picture> She would never do us like that....... (Would she?)
I fully expect DPC to screw us over in like chapter 7 or 8 with the ultimate cockblock - just as MC is about to bang Bella and her husband comes back and we get a shocked reaction and the chapter ends with a cliffhanger.

No, they're talking about Bella's husband James who we've yet to meet and only seen in a photo

I think most people actually expect this to happen, maybe Bella and MC being out on their first date and then BAM in walks the husband and i actually don't think DPC will make it seem like James will be a bad guy as one of the big theories is that hes MIA in one of the military branches so if thats true Bella can't really blame him for being gone so long as his life was probably already hell and then she will have a tough decision to make.

I don't understand this fandoms obsession with her husband, he's not relevant and won't be important at any point.

This veil of mystery surrounding Bella is all fan made. And people gonna be so disappointed when they find out it's all in their head.

I can live with 14 - 20 episodes of being a dik.
And its nice that he addressed the stories moving a bit slower than he intended. Hopefully he'll pick it up in episode 7.
I find this reassuring. Not only the uncompressed timeline, but his enthusiasm in the response with regard to the story. IMO, a story going slower than expected can be better than faster - could mean there’s more ‘content’ to pack in than DPC had originally anticipated...:sneaky:

It’s sounding like chapter 7 is gonna give us significantly more questions than answers.

Agreed, but that means my theory about MC getting sexy time with Jill in the beginning of season 3 may have just been blown out of the water. If it goes to 20 episodes, then there will be an even longer wait. The blue balling continues...

Lol oh no, he definitely will make an appearance, there's a reason DPC left that thread open instead of out right saying he was dead, thats an easy way to inject drama into the game.

"Between writing, designing and programming, I think the most challenging part is writing."
"My chosen writing method plays to my strengths, as I see writing as my biggest weakness."

I know a couple of people here who will be amused to see him say this.

"Fan response, however, doesn’t affect the story." - Yeah, no shit, it just gets you banned from Patreon, Discord, and Steam. :cautious:

How many episodes/seasons will Being a DIK have?

I'm in no hurry to finish this game; my main priority is that it's finished in the way I want. When I leave B&R behind me, I want to do so without wishing that I could have done more. That's why it's hard to say that the game will be this many episodes or that many seasons. The public information is 10-20 episodes and coming this far into the project; I think that it’s an estimation that still holds, but, right now, it’s leaning to be in the 14-20 episode range.
I mean, from the outside looking in, it's still hard to see this, mainly because of the progression of the relationships.

The MC is already beating himself up over being with several other girls after telling Jill he's falling for her and automatically turns down the threesome with Nicole and Sandy, and it feels as though this game is going to start forcing players into monogamous relationships within the next few episodes with potentially 10 more episodes to go. If that happens, it could be quite boring from a lewd scene perspective, but on the flip side, to be able to still have lots of girls at the same time for the majority of the episodes without being tied down would seem odd given how they seem to be progressing fairly quickly towards monogamous commitment.

Who is the first character who started the Being a DIK story?

I want to answer this question, but I can’t at this time. I’d be willing to answer it when the game is complete.
Their reluctance to answer this makes me think this is going to be the most important character in the story with probably the most important and potentially emotionally impactful character/story arc.

Even though this is a work of fiction, do you research your story to make it more accurate, e.g., the university system?

Absolutely. I find it important to conduct research when writing a story that offers some level of realism. The university system is a mix between the US system and that of my country, in which I have experience. Of course, the game is nowhere near being realistic, but I want the characters and their problems to feel like someone or something you can relate to.
So maybe this means that whole "tuition ultimatum" may have some basis in Swedish society.

Overall, the one thing that really struck me about this Q&A is that DPC doesn't seem to see any fault in anything they've done and to me, that's a bit of a problem. No matter how good something is, you can always find fault in it, and even creators can find fault in things they've created. I'll bet if you ask Steven Spielberg about his life and work, he'd mention things in certain films he's made that he not too happy about and wishes he could have done differently, but there were several questions here where DPC is asked if he sees any issues with what he's done so far and he doesn't acknowledge any.

This isn't to say that DPC has to acknowledge any of the things that get brought up on this thread as perceived issues with the game, but seeing no fault in anything I think says a lot about DPC and why they don't respond well to even constructive criticism since I guess they perceive everything as perfect.

If i am not mistaken this suggests that there is a character more central to the story than it seems at a first glance. Otherwise he could simple answered the question. Since he didint seems he didnt want to make a spoiler.

So we re not even in the midle of the story. It s to be expected that the current events will not have inmediate and significat repercusions that could change the Status Quo.

I've noticed quite a shift in tone and overall atmosphere between Acting Lessons and Being a DIK. What inspired that shift from Acting Lessons to Being A DIK?

I like many different genres, and I wanted to create something different with the new game. The college genre is a personal favorite of mine when it comes to movies, and I knew that I could come up with a lot of fun material for it, so I went for it.

The story of Acting Lessons is a very personal story, steeped in life experience, which got pretty dark. I wanted Being a DIK to lean more on comedy, so scrapping the idea of making Being a DIK the prequel of Acting Lessons seemed like a natural choice. I think that it was the single most important decision of my career as a developer so far.
This could only apply to the first moments of the story and not to the end. However Acting Lessons also had some comedy and happy moments and yet DPC accept that there is a shift on the tone. Perhaps BaDik is less dramatic than AL.
