Hmm, Bella has been shown to not always be in control when she's around MC, for example in EP6 when she stays with him after helping him with his room, or EP7 in the library when she clearly flirts with him although anyone one could catch them at any time and there's a couple more instances like this. Hell, you could even argue that MC is the controlling one because although she did not want to mess around with him in the beginning, he just kept pushing her until she couldn't control herself. The examples of what Josy would do were to counter that she would be boring. The rest of the girls, even if they would be up to some stuff, have the issues that I suggested.
Jill is a pain in the fucking ass. We've actually seen her go scuba diving, so no argument there ( ), but we've also seen her go behind the mc's back multiple times against his wishes and cause problems. So that's real. She's also easy to con, we've seen it (maybe her standing up to Tybalt is the end of that). So whether Jill is outgoing or not (she is though, she enjoys sports etc), her negative traits are a lot to accept:
This is a case of, could you live with someone like that for years? I couldn't.
- Excessively stubborn.
- Makes decisions for you, not with you.
- Naïve. Yes it might change, but supposedly her friends have been trying to get her to stop being a dumbass for a while now...
- Her reading signs into random events is a recipe for disaster!
- She has a butt ugly smile. Things are going good, you're both happy, then you look at her and she's smiling and you're like, what the fuck have I done!?
Bella, with age, has proven she can look after herself. So among all the girls she's the most responsible and capable. But she's also set in her ways. She's very controlling - she typically has full control of the relationship, the mc tries to kid himself he has some control, but he doesn't. How much compromise would there be in such a relationship, and how much just doing what she says would there be? You say you don't care about the age gap, that's all good and all, but it isn't something you can ignore forever. If you were her age it'd be different, but the fact she is a teacher, and the age discrepancy exists, I feel she'd always hold authority over the mc. I've actually seen that with a friend; that's not a good relationship (and it was only a 10 year gap).
I also think Bella would be the kind of wife that would nit pick everything you do. "Do it this way", "What are you doing!?" etc. Plus she's possibly a serial killer...
To me it's probably a contest between Josy and Sage, and since Sage has a bad temper, Josy wins. I fucking hate women that fly off the handle all the time.
But all in all, different strokes for different folks. I'm definitely not saying you're wrong, you're just looking for different things.
I've made some really big mistakes in my short life already, and they've all involved women, so I'm a lot more calculative now when it comes to personalities. Easy going and outgoing are the best characteristics in my book. Shit happens in life, and you want to be with someone who can roll with the punches and share the ups and downs with. Not someone who just makes that shit even harder.
That makes her boring as far as a story goes, but in real life you don't want a girl with big problems. In real life you make your own stories together. In a novel, characters are defined by their backstories. So yeah, Josy's lack of a significant backstory hinders her in this game. Her big issue was she had a falling out with her parents. But she resolved it. That's actually fucking awesome.
A list of Josy's characteristics (they are not mind blowing, but they give some insight into who she is).
All this said, Josy is not my favourite character, I'm just chiming in with who I think would be the best, long term, if this shit were real. As far as who my favourite is, I don't even fucking know. It's probably Quinn (who I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole in real life!)
Now, perhaps this is because of the intense feelings she has at the moment and when eventually they get into a serious relationship and the honeymoon phase is over she will get more serious and stop loosing her cool around him (although even this is hard to believe for me, in the flashback, she refused to fuck James in her workplace but she just couldn't 100% manage herself and gave in when he suggested a make out session).
But this is only speculation, for now, both her and MC have had serious discussions where they talked about and accepted each others's feelings and opinions, until shown otherwise I'll believe that she would actually be a decent gf instead of being a mean, authoritarian bitch.
