We do not know the actual details of the relationship. I'm not even sure if it is confirmed how long they were together. The closest is the flashback of Rusty and Tommy founding the DIK fraternity two years ago, but the brief interaction might be Sage chasing after Chad rather than already being in a relationship. Certainly Chad was with Sage for status and the status wouldn't be there before Sage became the HOT president. The relationship might actually have been less than year.

the only leverage to make the situation less unbelievable is to assume that actually the relationship between Sage and Chad is quite short, in the flashback we see Sage already buzzing around Chad but it might have just been the beginning of a long siege, which doesn't really improve Sage's situation that much but at least it makes her less stupid

The thing is that DPC omits details of the girls' sexual life behind the player knowledge to not upset very impressionable people. In the very first episode, we still saw such interactions where Dawe gropes Riona when Maya doing a tour for MC, as well as Riona and Quinn coming out of the toilet with gloryhole - it is clear what happened there, because of a "restaurant". But then more censorship began to descend, specially everything that concerns Main Girls. It is safer for DPC going with the trope where player don't know about the girls sexual activities, only in season 3 the game became slightly grounded.
From what I heard, when Josy/Maya opened in Ep.3, the rage of the thread was huge (the audience at the time)

Whether they had sex or not is not important to me, I will say as a Sage fan: what upsets me is that Sage got to date trash like Chad for almost two years, that's worse.
