I've been doing something important and having a lovely discussion with a fellow member of #TeamLily who has also moved Cindy into his #2 slot, about how Cindy gives us a glimpse into what a Lily path might have looked like had she never started stripping and been kicked out by her parents. A beautiful blue eyed blonde with extreme intelligence and a pure loving soul. :love: Would Lily have been the shy/meek classmate sneaking peeks at the man of her dreams and only being brave enough to speak up when she's hiding behind a mask? :unsure:

But the original post wasn't just about breaking up with the girl, it was about breaking up with the girl and then kicking her from the story completely.

And while yes, sage has all the reasons to come forward and help Maya, without the MC it's pretty hard to do if she's been kicked from the story.

My example wasn't about how silly it is that sage offers help after breaking up with MC (because as president of the HOTs and being a nice person anyway why wouldn't she) it was that if she just disappears after a break up she couldn't offer help and the main plot stalls.

I don't think the problem is that they remain in the story, but that they remain so attached to mc.

The story is very partially the story of mc, in fact for now almost not at all.

The motivation is economic (being able to use the same scene for everyone) and plot. And that's fine.. But from an emotional point of view it is just ballast

Which I think is what brought the original point up in the first place, I used sage in my example, but I think the original point was why can't I dump Jill and have her leave the story.

You and others pretty much nailed it with its easier keeping them around for economics and render purposes, I was just going one further saying the story breaks down without them. (though you could argue even that's economics and render purposes, the MC could easily find out Sage in a Burke without Maya's need to see Stephen, Maya could even see Stephen with out Sage's intervention. But it's all more work in the end

I don't really agree that it was the only way.

The visit to the burkes' only serves mc's story for the cliffhanger at the end of the chapter. Which, however, in many cases turned out to be quite insignificant.

Then if mc was somehow related to Sage and/or Jade, Maya and Josy then it becomes an interesting scene.

Just don't put it as a chapter closure and it becomes like the weekend in the mountains at Bianca's, which you only participate in if it makes sense.

Another unmotivated obligatory moment is the yoga class with Bella. These are choices to make volume.
