But that's not true. On the "others'" path, the game already limits the player's actions. In episode 10, he has to choose between Nicole and Nora; in episode 11, he chooses between Nicole and Lily, and I'm sure that won't be the final choice. As for Zoey, I think returning to her immediately closes off all the others' paths. After my MC returned to Zoey, He received a flirtatious message from Camilla. And he automatically replies with something like, "I don't think we can now." I think this means that the MC now considers himself "in a relationship," and he will reject other girls, just like the MC does after the choice in episode 8. And yes, if you're back with Zoey and planning to go on a date with Nicole, it's going to hurt.
As for the paths where the MC abandons the MG and returns to Zoey... well, if DPC thought it was too much work, he wouldn't have created those paths. As has already been said here, Zoey's return was planned from the very beginning, and now DPC is simply following his plan. I think the MC will reveal his decision only at the end of the episode. Players might not even see the consequences, and the final scene on these paths will be the moment when the MC enters the room to tell his now ex-girlfriend that he's decided to leave her (or them) and return to Zoey. Then, of course, they'll hate him and stop communicating. And I think that regardless of which girl the MC dumped, he'll lose the friendship of the entire main five. They'll still be involved in the story, and players will see canonical scenes, but nothing more. Nothing is impossible for the DPC here. In fact, it's not much different from what we're currently seeing on the "others'" path. In episode 11, the MC doesn't have much interaction with the MG on this path. For example, he only speaks to Jill once, at the beginning of the episode. I don't think it would be a big deal for DPC to create paths where the MC completely stops communicating with Josy, Maya, Sage, Jill, and Bella.
