They said they'd still do the updates. Also I wonder if it was a mistype because they gave their days off as 24, 26, and 31 December, which weirdly suggests they spent Christmas Day working but not the days either side?

That's what I thought.

But then I thought that maybe in his country Dec 26 is not a public holiday, while 25 is, so he just cited his days off in working days, given for granted that he wouldn't work on 25 being it a non-working day?

Given they're self-employed and typically list any days they're not working as a major event, it was a weird placement to me.

Unless we get a twist that after she lost the kid and James left she had a breakdown which involved surgery in an effort to win him back, it is fucking distracting for me when you're trying to go for a "grounded" storyline.

Jill and Sage are riding that line of believability at times, but Isabella I just mentally imagining a Stepford Wives situation.

Idk if I'd really call the story "grounded" tbh. Maybe in relation to other AVNs, but DPC is a bit of a hack.

Anyway, you want unrealistic proportions, there's way worse you can find outside of this game.

Maybe "grounded" isn't the best term, more like a lot of the themes are now portrayed very self-seriously. And yeah a lot of it is also soap opera tropes done reasonably well.

And god yeah there are a lot of far worse unrealistic proportions, but most of them are either just shite anyhow or are doing that in completely unserious stories.

Here you can definitely tell DPC changed their mind at some point in S2 to make it more "grounded"/self-serious in endeavour as the characters who organically became more prominent (take Nicole for instance) after that point seem more designed to be "believable" while the original LIs are all locked in to their initial design concepts regardless of whether they truly fit or not.

Basically Bella's character model works better if it was still "older" widow who becomes attracted to young man soapy stereotype, while if as expected we're going to baby loss it suddenly feels distracting.

I liken it to a CW show that suddenly found itself on HBO, receiving better production value and a more serious direction, as you say.

That's a brilliant way of putting it. I've mentioned it before but DPC has quite clearly taken a lot of inspiration from ABC's Greek, which was a sitcom around 2010 that centres around a party frat house of misfits and the protagonist of the show has the first name "Rusty".

I know a lot of self-employed folks who don't work on Saturday, Sunday, and any public holiday, without explicitly having to say it.

I reckon that it would have been more clear saying "from 24 to 26", anyway :)

He hasn't been too shy about the influences on BADIK. From 2022's Q&A:
I remembered reading a previous Q&A; you enjoyed watching raunchy late 2000's movies. What other movies/shows were your favorites, and did they impact making Being a DIK?

My favorites haven't changed a lot in the college/school genre, and I think that all college movies I've watched are a subliminal source of inspiration for the game, but I don't want to copy original creations in any deliberate way. Many of my favorite college/school movies aren't highly ranked on IMDb, nor should they be - they aren't perfect, but I thoroughly enjoy them.

To name a few off the top of my head:

"Sorority boys", "Going greek", "The hot chick", "21", "Girl next door", "Grease", ”American Pie” (3 and Band camp are my favorites), The Waterboy.
And his latest one:
If you had unlimited resources and unlimited time (in some kind of Room of Spirit and Time kind of situation), what kind of game would you make?
Interesting question... Hm... I'd probably turn Being A DIK into a non-VN type of game. Similar graphics, but in a 3D world that you'd walk around in and forward the stories on a day-to-day basis. Like a weird mix of games like Bully, Yakuza, and Persona. The theme and feel should be the same as in the VN version, but transferred into this 3D world where you walk around and interact more. It would be fully voiced and animated, and I would be able to purchase music licenses that aren't royalty-free.
