DPC may not be the best writer in the genre, but he is an excellent psychologist. His strong point is the development of characters and, in general, characters are the hallmark of this game. DPC also works amazingly with the emotions of players. I have heard many stories of scenes that made people cry and empathize with the characters; he is good at working in the area of "gray morality".So this was interesting: I just got back from couples therapy. (No, ReallyNotTina and I aren’t having problems; we’re being preemptive. Catch those red flags before they turn into real problems!) Our psychologist wanted to talk about our sexy-time recreation, and since we do Being a DIK together, that came up.
Confused the doctor for a minute, because she thought “playing Being a DIK” meant we were roleplaying, and in this roleplay I was being a dick towards my woman, and she wanted to know just how I was being a dick. No no no, I said; it’s a video game—well, adult visual novel. ReallyNotTina got on her phone, found DrPinkCake’s Patreon page, and showed her. I absolutely love ReallyNotTina’s description: “It’s the erotic adventures of a frat boy who’s either looking for love, or looking to plow.” Short n sweet.
Turns out our doctor actually heard of DPC’s previous AVN, Acting Lessons. There’s a sequence in that game with a therapist, which apparently worked its way to one of our therapist’s colleagues and impressed him. (ReallyNotTina’s guess is the colleague was probably tugging his cock to the game himself.) Anyway the psychologists were wondering whether DPC had personally undergone some traumatic experience, and that’s how all the therapy lingo got into the game; or whether he himself is a therapist. Y’all know he’s implied more than once that there’s something substantive to the Dr. in his nom de porn.
It made me think of that trick Jill pulled at the beginning of her date with the MC—“I think that we should have our date now and you leave all those feelings you feel at the moment in this spot. When we’re done, you can come back here and get them if you feel that you need them.” That’s such a therapist thing to say. (Technique actually works though.)
there are real suspicions that this is a lived experience, or maybe he has a degree in psychology. It’s a coincidence that you guys came across a psychotherapist who is familiar with his game; this is probably a one in a million chance. World is full of miracles.
