That's actually a fair point and given I barely play the Thruple path, not something I considered.

But thinking about the path I do play, Bella's, Nick leaving obviously opens up the "will he spill there secret" which doesn't apply to any rest of the paths. So really, what benefit to the story does conflict with Nick bring?

He just follow the basic writing lessons. I remember once listening a podcast, where writers or peoples who work at hollywood said, that the first thing they teach them, is if you have 2 character in a scene, creat conflict and Drama, Drama Drama

There is a scenario in Chuck tv show, Chuck bitching that Sarah not said I love you yet, and when she finally said it, that time Chuck learned that the Intersect in his brain might kill him, he planing to be Honest wiht Sarah, but becasue she said I love you, in that moment he deciced to be quite, and kept it from her, for future Drama.

And that is basically the basic for all Drama, characters simply not honest with each others ,
or don't tell basic information like Sage's last name so we can have awesome cliffhangers like the " Fuck , Fuck Fuck " scene

I struggle with Sages last name....

On the one hand I don't generally go around introducing myself using my full name, nor do I ever have an interest in other people's.

But on the other, it's fucking college and she's the Deans daughter. How the fuck that doesn't get out is beyond me. Surnames are known in education purposes

plot holes all over the place. There is something in DPC's writing that I like to call “schrödinger's common sense”. It consists in that DPC characters can be quite deductive with their common sense in one scene and then in the next scene or chapter they lose their ability to use common sense.

Yeah Yeah Maya has a reason to keep a secret, but the whole drama would have not happen if she say, " I am in a relationship " . instead of the : " I tell the boys that I am in a relationship so they leave me alone, and you should not develop feelings toward me either "

Josy at least in this case was a bit more honest, so MC kind of a hypocrite who despite knowing this still decide to Fuck her, and then later bitching about "Cheating"

But then again, Josy and Maya never talk about why MC was upset in a first place , until MC confront them.

as has it been said, many times during that era, this was always poorly crafted and badly executed drama.

and frankly he did not improve that much in this aspect in the future, just think of the whole Jill , Tybalt blackmail storyline, what only one saving grace was that at least Bella was funny in it.

A. He is barking up The wrong tree
B. She has a girlriend
