All the MGs are somewhat broken in this game, yes, even Josy, because they've all got issues they deal with and ignoring that to pretend they're perfect and they don't need anything to be better or change is ridiculous simping that, if you did that IRL, would be very unhelpful and harmful to the girl.
Also, if things were different and they weren't together, Maya's main issue would still be an abusive and overly controlling father, even if he's not threatening her academic and financial over her sexual orientation because that wouldn't be known to him, as well as her mother's illness making things at home traumatising. Josy's issue would be...not getting along with her step-mother and brother. Also some issues with fearing loss of love and having little in the way that makes her stand out from a crowd, but both have their issues, and Maya's are still probably far greater than Josy's.
Sorry dude, but the way you talk about Josy like she's the most pivotal character in this game with a story that dwarfs all others is like praising the inanimate carbon rod for saving the lives of Homer and the astronauts in The Simpsons

One way of speeding things up but still pretty much doing 100% of the work is to hire some people to just to render animations. Its still all his story, posing, creating etc. Just getting some outside help with the thing that takes the longest. Would just be the same as buying a couple of new PC's really, only cheaper I guess.
If his beta testers are regular ones maybe they could do it.
Or would renders still take donkeys years to download to another PC?

He isn't going to hire anyone. He isn't concerned about going faster, he doesn't want to share his money, he doesn't want to rely on anyone, and he wants complete control over development. It's a big mix of ego, greed and artistic temperament, and it isn't an even split.

The speed wouldn't increase, or so the story goes... essentially he doesn't like to have idle PCs so ultimately he times everything to finish at once. Suppose he suddenly has more rendering power than he did in the past. In that case, he will find that everything is rendered before he's written and coded the game, which by all means, theoretically means it could come out faster, but now his PCs are sat idle he will up the quality of the renders thus increasing the time. Last time this happened when he upgraded his cards he upped the quality from 30 fps to 60 fps. the guy has a really particular way of working and wont break that cycle

Dude, remove Josy from Maya's equation and she still deals with an abusive, controlling, bigoted father. Remove Maya from Josy's equation and Josy's just a high school prom queen type girl with not much to her besides her looks along with Daddy and family issues. One has it way easier than the other, and let me tell you, it's not Josy. If anything, Josy just exacerbates Maya's issues.
Even though I like the throuple and like both girls, I'm under no illusions as to who they both are and what they're dealing with, particularly Josy. She really isn't her own person at the moment and is more like an accessory to Maya's issues, but not accessory in the fashion sense of the word like she's a sparkly add-on, but more accessory in the crime sense in that she's kinda aiding and abetting this bad situation that's befallen Maya. Doesn't mean I think they should split or anything because I believe Patrick is wrong for doing this, but her whole purpose and that of her relationship seems to be as the focal point of Maya's story and drama which means Josy isn't much of an individual character right now. So in that sense, maybe, she's pivotal but not in a positive way, really.
However, I do believe her and Maya are in love with each other and can be good with each other, they're just in a shitty situation right now that can be improved. Josy, though, really needs to start getting something for herself, finding herself as her own person with her own identity and not just have her whole identity being "Maya's secret girlfriend", which is what it is now. Finding a hobby, finding an individual purpose, finding something that lets her stretch her own wings can be good for her and I want that for her because she needs it so it can improve her own sense of self-worth and identity.
To act like she doesn't need any of that, or that she already has that, or that she's "perfect" as she is and has an amazing individual story already is to be blind to the truth and is the literal definition of looking at someone with rose-tinted love goggles.

Despite the long amount of time it takes him to produce the update, I still think it's pretty impressive he manages to do everything himself.
As an artist myself I can understand his reasoning wanting to do it alone. I've known some similar type guys in my early school years. They might have been frustrating to deal with in some areas, but they always produced damn good works of art in the end and for them that's all that really mattered. You don't really find that many people that dedicated to their job, profession or even hobby like that. The temperament I can understand but I don't see it as having anything to do with ego or greed at all. In a way it's like someone working hard on creating an exquisite painting or drawing and having someone else come in and paint/draw a small section while the artist does the main section so it can be produced faster. Not many artists would be okay with that as it detracts from what they want the finalized piece to look like and everyone will have a different style that will rarely, if ever, match with each other.
