MC turning up in her life started the process of Bella moving on. This process will not be instantaneous. We are shown multiple times how Bella worries about being unfaithful. We are also shown her to be a very private person. It is to be expected that she will not easily voice her worries and MC is smart not to press her on that.

We do know that Bella and James met in college. We don't know how their relationship progressed or when they got married, but they might have had as much as 15 years of memories before he disappeared. Moving on from that takes time.

MC and Bella are definitely due a long discussion about James, but they have naturally been distracted by the Jill situation. And now Maya's situation is another distraction. Helping Sage deal with her parents' divorce will be yet another distraction. However, distracting as they are the subjects of family and marriage are bound to spark thoughts in both of them. It's just a shame that when one of them finally says: "We need to talk" James turns up within minutes.

If Bella goes to meet Neil there are certainly possibilities for progress with the "What about James" elephant. However, Neil might also choose not to press her on the matter.

We should also remember that while we have speculated for years, the characters only met three months ago. It is not realistic to expect immense progress.

If James returns & you're not on Bella's path, would this be considered NTR? Bella is married to him, but he is a man.

• Does Bella consider herself a single woman after almost 3 years since her husband disappeared?
• If Bella still considers herself a married woman, why does she want to try something with the MC?

Thousands of questions could be asked, but Bella only mentioned the handbook and Jill as the main problems... What a joke! Even the MC the next morning recognizes that they did not address all the topics necessary to move forward with a relationship.

No complications, no NTR, it's all just been blown out of proportion really. The script for James' return goes like this:

Bella: "Hi Fuckface, this is James, my ex husband. I used to be all neurotic and weird about our split, and my hysterics even caused you to go into an exposition-styled monologue back when we were making out in the library that time, but really it's no big deal. We both cheated on each other, separated and now he's come back to tidy up a few loose ends."​

Now I get your point. My complaints are focused on James since in my eyes he is the biggest problem. As for my use of hyperbole, English is not my native language and culturally the people of my country make excessive use of hyperbole. I apologize if I expressed myself in a harsh or incorrect manner.

I personally have no issue with LIs being in relationships that don't include the MC. I know unless the novel is specifically focused on NTR, LIs being in a heterosexual relationship is a big issue with people.

You can't, you have to choose which Main girl you are going to be with (or 2 in the case of Josy/Maya), or choose to be alone (fucking side girls).

If you try to import a save with more than 1 main girl open. The game will 100% shit itself and stop working.

So, I thought I'd try something, but it's not going as I expected.
In the past, I would go into some of these kinds of games and edit the text a bit here and there, to suit my particular tastes (for example, I don't much enjoy dirty talk, so I usually tweak such dialog to be a bit less... unpleasant). However, in the past it's only been HTML games, and those were easily done. Not so for Renpy games.

So, I found out about UnRen, and I tried to use that. The instructions said to put it in the folder with the game's .exe file, and run it... which I did. I used options 1-6 in the list (Extract RPA, Decompile RPYC, enable console, quicksave, quickload, enable skipping and enable rollback).

After that, I don't know what to edit.

I went into Game/Scripts/Episode 9 (and other similar folders) and opened update9.rpyc with Notepad. It took some time to open, and when it did, was completely unitelligible, all chinese kanji. This is how every file I try to open looks. I'm kind of stuck.

I must be missing something, anyone able to offer me some guidance?

You have to use UnRen to unpack the .rpa files and use UnRen to decompile the .rpyc files. By doing this, you'll get the .rpy files. Then, download Notepad++ or another text editor, open any .rpy file you prefer, and edit whatever you want. If you mess with something you don’t understand, the game will crash, but making mistakes is part of learning. Good luck!

We might not have NTR in BaD (yet), but DPC has done it before that someone else gets one of the LI's in the end (as long as you don't end with her).

Will DPC repeat the same scene of Josy knocking on Maya's door in EP.3 when they make James' return? MC will develop a phobia of doors if that happens.

Since there is a possibility that James won't have a big role outside of Bella's route, his return could be very anticlimactic and not live up to expectations at all.
