in these last 3 chapters Zoey had her space, sure without sex scenes, but not so much inferior to the LIs and certainly superior to all the other sidegirls. the problem is how it was used
so the way i experienced zoey's and MC relationship (with all my bias and tunel vision and what not)...
when they met MC basically knew nothing... jon snow style. Zoey was experienced and bonafide rebel, she did not just fuck around, she was good at it.
She teach MC everything he knows about having fun, sex stuff, basically fully responsible for his coming out of his shell and even corrupting him a little.
While we can argue that Neil raised MC to be a CHICK person, it was Zoey who put fundation of DIK MC in him.
But while they have fun and MC is starting to get feelings he never speak up about it so he ends up heartbroken when Zoey leaves and personally i blame him for that.
Why? well its one thing to have someone holding your hand and slap you with it repeatedly and go "why are you hitting yourself". in this scenario you can blame that person for your pain. But if you are willingly slapping yourself without other person in the room or even being aware of this then you cant really blame them. That is how i see their "break up" during interlude.
And we know Zoey still thinks they are just buddies because she tries to keep the contact but she realizes MC acts weird so she realize she needs to do something about it but she has 0 experience in this field so clearly she fucks up.
i am not defending her fuck up, i am just stating that i understand where it comes from.
Then when she realize how much MC means to her she goes back, sees neil and finds out about MC is in B&R
they see each other and talk on the bench, this is most probably if not objectively her first interaction she ever had where she feels like she can fuck up because up to this point or at least up to the ending of interlude she has this "i give zero fucks about everything" attitude so this is new for her.
And not only does she not know how to approach situation, she also needs to listen to MC talk about his experience in all this and she has to take it all, like trying to add extra files in already full drive.
Now here is where i agree with you. I wanted/needed zoey to be open about needing MC in her life during halloween party, instead we got her being friendly with jacob. And yes i understand that is who she is, she is just being friendly, but we got multiple scenes dedicated to her. the photoshoot, the roof, the goodbye... yet i did not get what i wanted and thats ok, disappointing but not something that would make me hate zoey or dpc.
I also love that she feels strongly against drugs which lowkey hints that CHICK MC is canonically better pick for zoey path than DIK MC even though technically she created DIK MC.
She comes to visit HIM in his fraternity. remember, when MC went to visit josy it was quite the train ride so lets not act like this is 5 minute coffee break. it was full day dedication to come and visit MC and she was just happy to be around him, do whatever he wants. Them watching the photos and reading diary was very wholesome moment for me because it shows that MC really care and trust for Zoey already and its only matter of figuring out where she belongs in his life. There is no version of mc at this point in game who dont give a fuck about zoey who also invites her to read diary with him. what i mean is, you can ignore and avoid zoey if you dont want to see her content, but if you try to keep her around then MC WILL care for her to some extent.
It is not until he has the heart to heart with her in the forest where he asks her to not talk and listen to him (correct me if i am wrong), so its not like she did not have anything to say as you claimed, and its unfair to blame it on her when you compare how much he said with how much she said, because that is what MC wanted. and then he walked away after dropping that truth bomb leaving her speechless.
Do i think this is perfectly fine and well written story arc? no. but do i think its bad, sloppy, rushed... not at all.
i believe zoey's character and story would be much better if DPC worked on it from ep1 and not randomly pushed into story between season 2 and 3, but i love zoey and character and their relationship for what it is.
So i dont have the problem with how her spotlight was used, i am only sad it came in the story too late.
