Zoey's story arc is definitely misunderstood by players, compounded by the prejudice against alternative girls (tattoos, colored hair, piercings, etc.).

It's a well-known story (at least personal experience & with other friends), a relationship in which both connect but don't name what they actually shared. Sometimes affection and love are all there, but if both have little or no previous relationship experience (like in the characters case), calling it love always seems confusing or counterproductive.

The fact is, the MC felt abandoned at a time he considered one of the most complicated in his life. Zoey also ended up experiencing a death that profoundly affected his judgment. Young, confused, and dealing with growing pains—something unspeakable yet good—may very well end up destroyed in this process ou self discovering. The void it's so big, that you have to cut all your conections, move away, start again, leave the past in the past. This impulse it's very palpable at young age.

My only criticism of Zoey on this journey: she should take advantage of her newfound "maturity" thanks to new friendships and personal meditation and focus on herself, instead of trying to recover time that will never return. Her decisions (where to study, what to study, where to work, and what to do?) should revolve around her, not what she now understands as something that was real, good, but fleeting, part of a transitional process of youth that she thinks can be recovered intact as it once was: She can't!!!

But anyway... there are reasons of the heart that the heart itself doesn't understand.

Yeah, I remember the Interlude the first time through, thinking, "Why the hell should I care about this? Get on with it!". I just wanted to see my favorite love interests. Now, I realize Zoey has some pretty great renders during the Interlude.

I actually liked the interlude, before that we only had a short flashback scene with her and the mc and it didn't have any dialogue it was just the mc telling Bella about her and their relationship.

This is something that I've been thinking about for a while, It seems like a lot of people in this thread don't like Zoey, can someone explain why? She is definitely not one of my favorites, but I don't really mind her either. I don't really see a reason to hate her.
Zoey as a character is fine. Given the Interlude, her resolution to her feelings is figured out; her existence is for the MC. She's helped out Emma and Bret, and we can determine her DIK/Chick status for some reason. Essentially, she's an MC...but we already have one. We also have a best friend in Derek, but her behaviour doesn't really cause any real conflict or contrast with Derek. Rejecting her is great, (especially the instant reject coded option); she'll have other avenues and challenges to face; she just won't be his romantic interest. And can still play her role. This is good, as it's shown our MC has grown past her, with the dozens of options with other women, and the enjoyed drama and intimacy we've all enjoyed.

Choosing her is bad, as it defeats the entire purpose of the game to this point.

Our MC goes around campus helping people out with their personal issues. And gets into his own. So when Ms. Trope comes walking in to cause chaos, she does; which is fine, as that's the point of her role, of the ex still carrying a torch. But instead of teasing and getting drama to unfold, a) Sage paints it like she's the enemy, which she hilariously becomes, b) she can kill all built up romance of whatever path you're on.

It's like DPC is giving you a wrench.

By virtue of the MC being nice to Zoey's return, he/we can have the option to love her again. Despite literal years of us playing on romantic routes with dozens of other girls. You can just say "Oh, right, I should be with this girl." Which sadly, does fit into the maturity of our MC.

Being a DIK was a slice of life where you get to choose who to end up with. This hits the reset button, and now we've: a) ruined our existing relationships (imagine if you dumped Bella/Jill to choose Bella/Jill, just to be with Zoey), and b) Zoey needs to play catch-up in the intimacy department. As well as forcing her into the narrative.

Which means we have yet another forced, massive, dangling plot thread to add to the pile.

What's the aftermath of this? What will happen to all the girls stories (like the canon MGs + Quinn), and how will that impact MC and his involvement?

Along with:
  • Bella, James, and the what's in the room
  • Sage, and her family
  • Jill and her foundation for Lana
  • MC finding out about his maternal heritage
  • The rift between the dorm girls and the DIKs still needs to be resolved
  • The fracturing of the DIKs, Nick, and the cluck
  • Quinn ratting out Buddy to the cops
  • Tied to that is Vinny vs Lily and the PR Strippers
  • The Frat Wars.
  • Magnar's plot which causes the Jocks plot, the Preps plot, and whatever the Betas are up to.
  • The biggest one, the prostitution ring, Mona/restaurant/Stephen, which hasn't begun to be resolved.
Then there's the bloat that made one chapter a year+ longer, just to give us a pointless Interlude to play, when only two options are there, all for Zoey's DIK/Chick status to be determined. Who's the MC again?

It's the Bloated Milk Machine, again. Combine this with a 2 year chapter release schedule, and DPCs intentions are as clear as Zoey's trope. Let's not forget her $240k cost/2 year running animation. Keep the machine going another 5 years.

Whereas Josy can detonate her own relationship, Zoey can destroy them all. All for the player being too nice/Chick.

Now, if a rejected Zoey becomes the Old Flame trope to cause chaos again, that would be some interesting drama, knowing she can never get her old love back, but still hoping for it. It's an elaborate way just to have more Others, and DPC to keep making more scenes, but this time at the expense of years and years of story.

Hmm... I guess that for the people that have been playing since the game was first released, adding her to the game has a bigger impact than it has for someone like me who finished playing the game for the first time only a couple of months ago.
Considering how long updates seem to take to come out, I can see people being upset that time is being spent on a character that wasn't even in the game for years.
But overall as a character I don't really mind her.

To me Zoey's eventual return was obvious as soon as MC told Bella about her. And in terms of pace it happened exactly at the right time. MC makes his choice and a main girl wins. Sure there is still drama for each of them, but the chosen girl has beaten all rivals. The only one who could possibly be a real challenge is the ex.

It's funny you say that, because as someone who followed the development of BADIK from when it was just a thought in DPC's head, I can honestly say I don't mind Zoey at all. She was always going to be a character in the game; it was Jill I had my hatechops on for. She was a character DPC literally created after he had already conceptualized the story, the last-minute addition to "round out" the LI's, because of course, we needed her little Miss Perfect rich white girl beauty queen virgin somehow connected to the MC's mom bastion of virtue ass in the game. I don't even mind the extra fan favorite characters DPC fleshed out in the background in recent episodes. But Jill? Yeah, I had a hate boner for her for a while... still do sometimes, if I'm being frank.

My point is: Zoey? I sleep. Jill?

I know this is only a part of the argument, but I had always been under the impression that the interlude was a way for DPC to test save transferring? That he wanted something mechanically light to make sure he wasn't going to give players a bunch of impactful choices, only to accidentally break everything and force them to redo it all.

Yea I assumed she was going to be part of the game eventually when I saw the flashback. I just wasn't expecting it to only happen after 8 episodes lol

I tried looking at the spectogram but nothing came up, yeah. Like, no hidden words drawn in the audio or something. Furthermore, It was Derek in a Bush who isolated all capitalised letter [at least from what I've seen in his post].

Me I'd try and analyse the movement of the "ball" since I've not seen anyone do that. I'd try and send it through IA to maybe draw a line and see if it's anything useful. Or, like, what if the first letters of every phrase are an anagram of something or an acrostic? I'm reading way too much into it, but I'd like to believe there's something...
I just finished a replay of the game in search of clues or things that i could have missed and i also stumbeld upon the URL of the YouTube Video in the last scenes. Sadly i couldn't find any video with the URL shown in the scene.
Maybe i didn't read it right because my screen has a poor resolution, but from what i could read it was something like this:
"youtu.be/hQKYoJscTOU". But it didn't show up any results. Did you find something?
I also couldn't find any video with the URL in archives/waybackmachine. There wasn't any intresting besides the URL in the code.

Furthermore did you find anything new?
It feels like everything that can be found was already found and discussed.
at this stage I'm feeling that nobody is really bothered to chase loose ends anymore, but I'm sure some of us will keep it in mind for ep12, I have a feeling that just like with the puzzle box it's only the first side of the box for now
But then, the reward for the puzzle box itself was absolutely nothing story-wise. Excellent bait, would there be a switch with this one?

QOTD: If Sandy DOES have a threesome at the Pink Rose in episode 12, who will be the other stripper that joins in the fun?

I hope it's Brandi, but wouldn't mind if it were Rose or even Tania.

Either there will be or won't. Like, could be the same story as the puzzle cube or, since the cube was nothing, the video would be something. I don't know...

Law of popularity says either Lily or Nicole, but honestly I'd prefer either of the others.
Lily and Nicole can have their own scene now that are deep into love interests in my opinion, i hope DPC can make one of the other girls at the club.
