I feel like a lot of this is conflating intelligence with experience. Tremolo does a lot of stupid things because he hasn't had a lot of life experiences going into the game, but he certainly isn't an idiot. He's no genius either, of course - like most people, he has his moments of sharpness and stupidity. He's simply naive in a lot of aspects of life, especially expressing his feelings.

This applies to your perception of the other DIKs too. Like, most of them aren't exactly morons - even Derek, who acts the dumbest, is shown to be an excellent student when he puts in the work - but the majority of them are also just young party bros who haven't really had to put in much effort before or faced real consequences for their actions. Now that they are experiencing these things for the first time they're struggling to deal with it. They make a lot of dumb choices when left to their own devices, but they can be quite clever and creative once they have a direction to aim for.
