Yeah, Boze. I think what you said makes some sense. I always thought the reason Bella and Jill met in that support group campaign was that Bella had lost her husband, I never thought things like miscarriage could be the reason. And another thing come up to my mind, in Ep8 when MC&Bella had their real date in her house, joking about that waiter said before, Bella said 'Don't EVER call her Mom', something like that. Perhaps there really was such a child once. But the 'James caught her and abandoned' part you mentioned, I think it's a little too much. There seems to be something to forgive on both sides.
My thought:
- Bella and James had a child that died. Could be a miscarriage or as an infant (SIDS).
- Bella met Jill her (Jill's) freshman year and bonded over their shared grief.
- James had some job where he was out of town a lot and Bella was mostly left to deal with the grief on her own.
- Jill was over at Bella's one time and they had some wine. They were in Bella's bed (the only bedroom) settling in to sleep and talking and getting emotional.
- Jill made the move on Bella, but Bella responded. They aren't bi but their emotions and pain were strong and they wanted some physical comfort. (No way to know how far they went, but I suspect it wasn't full sex or anything like that.)
- James caught them. <-- this explains why Bella is thinking that she needs forgiveness from James.
- The dead child grief plus now Bella apparently cheating on him were too much and he abandoned Bella. Refused to talk or try to work on things. <-- this explains where Bella says he could come back and that she forgives him.
- He's now been gone for 3ish years. (Bella said she hadn't been touched in 3 years.)
- She still wears the ring and considers herself married because they never divorced and she carries a ton of guilt for how the relationship was broken.
- The MC connected with her emotionally and she is finally starting to accept that her marriage is truly dead and she can move on and pursue her own happiness.
The Bella/MC relationship is the one main girl relationship that I feel has a legitimate ticking bomb in it.
James is very likely to be coming back at some point.
I don't think DPC would do it, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if Bella and the MC's relationship would not survive that.
I think James will definitely come back at some point—this kind of triangle situation never gets old for me, haha. I really love the dynamic between Bella and MC. As a young person, MC boldly took the initiative without overstepping, while Bella, as an adult, gradually took out her emotional barriers and tried to open up, I just adore that chemistry a lot. But if their relationship doesn’t work out by the end of the game, I’d be okay with it too. Sometimes letting go is also an act of love.
