I think 4k is a bit of a waste, however it does future proof him. 4K will probably be where things are in a decade. When Lucas re-released Star Wars he did all the effects in 1080P, which limited them for the future. (not to compare the two)4K renders, he is doing a job for 4.83% of gamer audience according to Steam statistics who have 4K monitors.
2K would be enough, it is more mainstream now with 20% of users, 4K is still for the elites. But DPC being DPC.
I imagine Maya's skin will look awful in 4K
I'm not surprised this is what he was doing. It's the only thing that really explains the really slow dev cycle.
If he's at 60% content then he could be targeting 350 animations (40 less than episode 11). Could be content complete by July next year.
If he's 60% in terms of production time then he could be compelete in June.
