First things first, I'm male in case you haven't figured it out yet. The only lie from Maya I have found was "I need to call my boyfriend" and that's it, it is a lie but I've seen it used so many times that I'm neutral about it as girls typically use it in two cases, either they are actually seeing someone(Josy) or it’s a polite way to tell you off(Maya) so it's pretty easy to figure things out.
Yes, she has someone, but not a boyfriend, which is why the statement is still true. Promise wise, you are watching a scary movie with her on her phone, you are scared so she's comforting you, and the conversation starts.

I have a young looking acquaintance who often get aproached by women in bars. When they ask if he has a girlfriend he would truthfully say no. I always thought he was a bad guy and avoided any kind of meaningful interactions with him because he was in fact married and had a wife. But turns out he wasn't lying or misleading someone. Those ladies can only blame themselfs for asking wrong question.

So, I started typing up in-depth responses to the whole Maya debate, but it seems pretty simple. Did Maya lie? Perhaps not, from a purely technical standpoint (aside from the boyfriend lie, which is whatever). But was Maya deceitful? Please be objective. Yes, clearly, she was deceitful. She could have cleared up any confusion and shut down a relationship with the MC at any point, but instead she implied she was available with both her words and her actions and then freaked out when her great lie of omission (not the same thing as stating falsehoods, you fellows who keep trying to bog this debate down in semantics) came right up to knock on her door.
If you can forgive that level of deceit, that's fine. But the reason this debate endures, I think, is that people seem inclined to pretend Maya did nothing wrong. Come on, now. Really? It's weird that she asks for complete honesty and doesn't hold herself to the same standard; people you just met are not obligated to know everything about you, true, but that dynamic shifts when they ask you to be 100% honest with them and imply they will be the same with you. That makes it lame then that she lies to your face followed by coming clean only to lie by omission in the same breath, which is exemplified by the "probably" instead of "definitely" in "you probably shouldn't [be attracted to me]". Even that statement is ridiculous, if she just said "we can't be together, the end" it would have been more honest. And it's totally shitty to do all the things she does with the MC and never - even after he knows she likes girls and has nothing left to hide in this regard - tell him "I'm in a relationship, we can't do this."
She likes the MC and can't resist seeing where it goes, so she leads him on and doesn't ever fully close the door on him. That's just not cool. Say what you like about her "using" the MC for free tuition - I'm personally in the camp that the MC is a big boy who can make his own decisions in this regard, and his decision was to help her so it's not "using". But never shutting him down, stringing him along with multiple displays of lust and affection, all while hiding a pre-existing relationship that would make it all moot? That. Is. Wrong.
Simple.
If you like her, like her. No harm, no foul. But see her for who she is, not what you'd like her to be. When people call her deceitful, it's just a statement of fact. It's not an attack, and it's not something you can really defend her from. If you like her anyway, at least these people won't come between you and her, right?

For example, a person may not be forced to tell a other person their sexual preferences, or even how they see themselves between genders. SO let's say someone asks that person if they have a boyfriend or girlfriend. Instead of using those words, they can use gender-neutral words! YAY! Such??? Such as: Partner; Lover; Significant Other; Boo; And even Goyfriend!
It's still new ground for most people, so use your imagination!
