ok, but insignificant
- To each their own. I find watching the small ways characters react to each other is a big part of the appeal in this game.
- Shows the friendship between the MC, Maya and Josy in the wake of their reconciliation
in theory they have already reconciled, the dialogues are the same as if we were in their route only no effusions, nothing that allows us to glimpse the solo route
- Yes, they've reconciled. What does that mean in practice? We spent most of Episodes 1 and 2 setting up the initial routine with Maya. This is part of establishing the new routine with M&J. This is necessary regardless of whether the MC tried for something more (though obviously the routine itself will be different). Pesonally, I'd have preferred more buildup before Maya's dad dropped in on us, but that just makes this all the more important.
- Establishes that mild tension exists between Jill and Maya/Josy [semi-Conditional]
it seems to me that only MC warns her tension (even if there is nothing with Jill) and maybe Maya, Josy and Jill get along too wel
- As I said, the scene could have used more depth here, especially on paths where both the MC and Jill seem disinterested in more dates. But it does establish that there is still tension between the four, and it's clear this will come up again.
- Reiterates the point that the MC is going to take his studies more seriously in the wake of Hell Week
oh well .. wow
- This could wind up being meaningful, if DPC wants it to. The point is made several times that the MC is trying to turn over a new leaf after Hell Week. Establishing a mundane backdrop of studying would be important for that... if it ever amounts to anything. I'm certainly curious to see what the next Gender Studies mini-game will be.
- Explores Sage's views on work-life balance
if we eat together she already tells us, ok let's call it character deepening
- She says she's working on it, but that doesn't quite convey the scope of it; I know dissertations are a big deal in real life, but real life and B&R are hardly identical twins!
- Shows Maya is comfortable enough with the MC to openly flirt with him [Conditional]
in what situation? say with the pact accepted? if so ok, let's say an aperitif before the threesome teaser trailer
- Yes, obviously only if she's not-legally-dating the MC. Just because there's a big sex scene later in the day doesn't mean Maya's flirting scene here isn't important. It's like foreplay for AVN gamers.
- Advances the Derek/Wendy sub-plot [optional]
ok, who knows if it will have serious implications or just a skit during the lessons
- I think it will be part of Derek's arc. The implication seems to be that we can steer Derek into embracing a more committed path with Ashley or sticking with his desire not to be tied down by chasing other girls on the list. I could see this mattering either way, though it seems more likely on the Ashley side.
- Establishes future work opportunities at the library [Conditional on mini-games, possibly Bella path]

- I'm inclined to agree, but DPC spent a lot of time on that mansion mini-game, so who knows how that money could be used in the future. At any rate, a regular chance to hang out with Bella could certainly matter.
- Shows us more of Quinn's network, establishes Sally's role in it
I think it's the most important note, it also creates a connection between the nerds and Quinn, which could be important- Gives us the return of KRJ!

I'm firmly of the opinion that you can't have big, powerful scenes if there aren't smaller, mundane scenes between them to make the big ones stand out. Perhaps I just have a higher tolerance for filler?you seemed pretty optimistic in trying to make sense of it
I have to agree, when I played that scene in the context of the rest of the game it made the game feel more alive. this scene is a key example of world building. in a non-visual novel setting it would be showing the audience how 'world' is rather than telling.
its passive part of story telling rather than active story telling, where you would reveal information through dialogue.
sure its less satisfying in an episodic story telling but as a part of the whole the library scene works really well.
Y’all do realize that in episode 7, MC is gonna be putting his charm into work with Maya’s dad right?

Pretty much fully agreed.
I'm a bit iffy on the whole Maya/Josy/Jill development but that's because a majority of it just seems to play out the same way no matter if you are dating/hooking up with none, just jill, just maya/josy or all. Really all that changes is that the MC has 2-3 less lines of inner monologue if he's not dating them all at the same time and you don't get to tease Maya unless on the M/J path.
All the other points I agree on however. Especially when it comes to Sage and Derek/Wendy.
For Sage: Sure, just sitting with her during lunch would have her drop a line about how writing her dissertation is gonna be a nightmare but at that point you could easily think "Makes sense party girl doesn't take her education seriously and is annoyed she has to work for it.". Only the library scene shows you her actual work ethic and in how high of a gear she is 2 weeks into the semester, so her lunch comment turns from "party girl complaining about college" into "a student having put lots of thought into how to get her dissertation done and having realized that even starting now she will be going through hell". Shows Sage in a bit of a different light, even if a lot of people already assumed she wasn't gonna be superficial and lazy/dumb.
And when it comes to Derek: It actually leads to something I didn't expect for him. Character growth. Sure, it's just a short exchange where you tell Wendy you'll talk to him about it but when you actually do it's after you've seen Derek depressed for most of the Episode and right after he explains that he needed to work himself up to even be called "asshole" by Ashley all those days and how just being completely ignored instead of rejected sucked. In that scene I really liked it that you didn't have to feed him the answer but Derek on his own notices that what he had been doing to Wendy is similar to what Ashley was doing to him. Pretty self-aware for a character that was mostly comedic relief so far, so I'm happy to have the short library scene where Wendy approaches you be the set-up for that.
Also if you compare it to many other freeroams this one was actually very informative. You have the Sally/Xanax scene showing you that at least 1 or, possibly, soon 2 Nerds are also tied into the drug plot. Likewise you are told 2 things about Quinns methods: 1) she tries to make her clients get other people hooked as well (though this was already implied) 2) she might be making enemies all around campus by having gotten people hooked on drugs and then raising the prices on them. That just increased the number of possible enemies Quinn could have by a lot which might be relevant later.
And even if we disregard the restoration minigame the info that the Library is understaffed also tells us how unlikely it is that Bella will take over and teach Cathys classes all of a sudden (for people that assumed this would happen soon).
If we compare that to most of the freeroams when still staying with Maya and the freeroam when staying with Derek it has far more plot relevance and as far as the pixel hunt goes I'll take the pixel hunt over Bellas damn flowers/plants every day of the week. I sense a pattern with Bella being tied to fairly annoying freeroam-minigames

There isn't, up to now it was about 5 months but now it has better equipment so maybe less. or more if he decide to use the upgrade to create more things in the same time as before

Not done anything with Quinn and I still had to sit through extended scenes of her selling drugs or going to pick up drugs or grooming girls.
Not pursuing Bella but I still had to go over to her house and have half of Episode 5 be doing yoga with her and making pancakes.
Funny how only two girls get this complaint thrown at them and everybody else gets a free pass.

That's because they're the only girls who drama is forced on us even when we're not pursuing them unlike with Sage, Bella & Jill.
