In short, if I understand correctly (plus I've read the last 100 or so posts), in this version (5 years later, lol, as usual) there is still little content and NOT ALL of the content from the original has been restored, right?

I just want to play BB again and choosing a “variant” depending on the amount of content. I know there are other games from PGN and Smirniy for example, but I'm put off by the unevenness of the content, as they use old renders from the original and their own or someone else's modifications, the quality of which is significantly worse than what DarkSilver did

I like Another Story Rebuild because everything here has been redone from scratch and the quality will not change from scene to scene. Which is why I only asked about this version and the original from DS.
I played this version a little and I like how it works here, all the little details like the diary, etc. Yes, objectively speaking, the renders still don't quite measure up to the original, but at least they look consistent.

So before playing through it, I'd just like to understand how much content there is: has all the content from the original been restored, and how much is new? Because if all the content hasn't been restored and there's nothing new, and it's all just plans, then I'd rather play the original BB and come back to this game in 100 years, when it's finished or abandoned lol

To put it simply. No, not all the content that was in the original has been restored at this point.

Is there new content? Absolutely. The addition of a new character, Mia (the lawyer) should be enough to note that there is new content here. To alleviate the fact that the relationships are still early in Ch1, dream sequences have been added etc. Even original events have some new twists on them.

Eric hasn't started appearing properly yet (starts being a nuisanse in Ch2, he's made a couple appearances in Ch1), but there's enough content in Ch1 imo to keep things busy. A big step up over DarkSilver's original imo. Being able to actually make good progress with the girls before you have to balance things with keeping Eric's influence in line and what not once he arrives. You're not still grinding stats and barely being able to keep up. Max actually has a bit of legway going into Ch2, and Eric's plot.

I believe the final update for Ch1 is set to release on Wednesday.

What about the saves ? Did he fix it ? By that I mean for example if you have finished 0.8 and saved it and then when you start 0.9 do you have to start again or you can continue from last save? Last update Ive played was 0.7 and waiting for 0.9 to start again. Though each update had issue where you had to start a new game. Hope that was fixed because that was annoying af

There's nothing to fix with the saves, it's not an "issue", but working as intended.

Ren'Py has a function to only accept saves from the same game and version, that he uses.
He does not just "add" stuff, but also changes things in what he already created. This could cause bugs if you load an old savegames, so he prevented it. You can set the Ren'Py engine manually to accept old savegames, but do that at your own risk.

You will have to restart in 0.9.

Hint: If you only want to play once, then don't play intermetidate versions, but only the finished chapters. In this case, that's planned to be version 0.9

is it just me or has renpy gotten worse and worse? like i cant use my saves from other devices, problems with renaming characters, edit save files etc.. all problems i had one or 2 years ago not in the slightest.. o_O

That is a new optional function. Ren'Py was (still is) a security nightmare, you can even put executable codes in savegames.
They chose an easy solution, that prevents savgame trading to begin with and that's what you are encountering here: Encrypted savegames like you know them from consoles and some PC ports (the user id being used for the enctyption key). Hopefully in time they come up with something better.

this game is driving me nuts! im stuck on the lisa kissing thing, walkthrough says "you need to touch her in the morning two times and on the third time kiss her on the lips after you buy her chocolate" but it never happens. WTF?

It’ll release gradually for lower tiers over the next few days. Releasing for all patrons by the 19th.

This is really for the early adopters who are already paying 30.
