I actually managed to finish the game, you can find all the gears if you aren't retarded and use your eyeballs. Its also possible to come first in the contest as well. just need to find all gears, and get the quiz questions right, as well as plant the planting the seeds in the black spots (not just the first ones you see). You don't get anything extra, just dialogue and you get to see what the gears make in the museum.
