It's Absent Without Official Leave, as opposed to proper shore leave for sailors in the Navy for example

Considering that in one of the screenshots that is attached to the OP, showcaseing the "Escape Pod" looks almost identical if not exactly as a Halo 5 "Spartan Drop Pod", Im not suprised they are AWOL. They prob got hit with a lawsuit by microsoft.

It’s Absent WithOut Leave. Technically you are AWOL if you are even 1 minute late, but 99% of the time they’ll just NJP you rather than punish you under that article unless it is egregious. But yeah, you can technically be given years in jail for being late to work.
