Unreal Engine - Carnal Instinct [2024-10-17] [Team Carnal Instinct]

It feels bad giving a low score to a game like this because the effort involved is obvious, but it feels like a case of ambition over execution. There's a vast beautiful world... with nothing to do in it. For a game that's focused so much on fighting, the combat is clunky and feels like a chore, where victory often feels like a matter of random chance. On top of that, it takes a good hour or so before you even get a glimpse of any adult content (which isn't worth the wait).

Respect to the developers for wanting to make an actual game, but the gameplay only stands out in comparison to other porn titles, which puts it in an awkward position where it's not really good enough at either the game or the porn part yet. This still needs a lot of work. Maybe check back in a few years.

It has alot of potential but there are still alot of things missing with the game, it is in "Pre-Alpha" though so hopefully it gets better with age and the devs dont abandon the game. If your playing the game for fapping material it will take you a while to unlock that content because your character starts as a "formless" which is basically a mummy with no form and you have to do a few quest to be able to get to the character creation screen.

Next updated my visual c and restarted my system. My fault, I just thought it was going to restart game.

Now fatal errors when trying to start game. So game deleted.

Graphics driver now complaining....what an annoyance just to try an average adult game.

Damn. I remembered trying the UE4 version of this game and being underwhelmed, mostly due to how clunky it felt. I have to say, the UE5 version is leagues better. It has actually fun combat. I never thought I would see the day that I played a 3d porn game with good combat, but here we are. The new version is leagues better than the old UE4 version, can't wait for more updates.

Carnal Instinct is a real piece of work. Lots of great stuff to see here (if you've got a good enough computer to witness it all) Surprisingly above all else it manages to get all the basic game fundamentals down very quickly, which leaves everything else up to the player with some - let's be honest - slow and chore-like flow of gameplay that rarely feels rewarding.

Don't get me wrong, this is top-shelf shit when it comes to H-Games, but Carnal Instinct often feels like it's padding for time more than it feels like an actual game. Everything feels good, but not amazing. Missions are fine, but nothing special. Sex is a treat, but not a full-course meal. This is a crazy top-line project trapped under an overall mediocre design.

Well i tried this again with the UE5 and it cant even be called the same game as for what it was once, this is about a million times better and i had very few bugs along the way.

Also being able to pick your main character to be a male or female or futa is great and on top of that you can pick if you want MC to be a dragon type with scales or felion or canine is fun to, i expect this will get improved over time as well and i hope there will be a few more options for human race, like more haircuts since theres only one kinda normal and rest was crap in my eyes, i mean wheres my twintails or something fun and cant pick hair color either.

Quests are pretty decent and the fighting works great be it sword/archer/magic it all seems to work great, its getting pretty close to becoming an AAA game overall, it just need more content and story is pretty good as well and having a mount to get around now is a huge improvement as well so all the running around dosent take to long.

Graphics are still very nice and when its dark in game the lighting is still shit so you cant see much which is a bit annoying when you cant even see who your talking with.

There are a few sex scenes more now but mostly its just side-character stuff, i found the 2 romances where one is kiss/licking pussy and the other a fuck, so i would still say theres not really much to come for if your looking for a porn game.

The animations has gotten alot better as well, now you can see a dick in a pussy which you couldent before and it looks pretty decent but for now its just single sex scenes where some will be boring without any real sex, i expect it will change when theres more content.

Music is pretty decent and suits the game and the voices are not so low anymore so thats an improvement as well.

I had this at 2 stars but now changed it to 4, i truely expect it to become 5 once it has alot more content, i will ofc revisit this one again.

UE4 version was a great start but really lacked polish: some parts of UI are inconsistent, some finnicky gameplay mechanics, clipping in some sex animations, and annoying map traversal. However, it had a lot of details and customization available (even though unlocking them is a chore as you need to explore and complete quests for that).

UE5 version (at time of review, on version 0.5.150 2024-06-02) is branded as pre-alpha and very work in progress, however already feels like a much more polished game than UE4 version. Mechanics for morphs make more sense (go to an altar instead of swapping in inventory, which however can become tedious), gameplay feels more complete and UI is top notch (in game UI, meanwhile the main menu and pause screen use the same template design as Home Together game, probably placeholder). Map traversal improved with mounts, there are unlockable PvE skills/abilities, new morphs unlocked by essence (earned by killing all enemies) and you choose what to unlock each time. Sex animations are also a lot more polished and have more attention to detail.

As of writing this review, the main problem I see is low amount of sex scenes, which is understandable in UE5 as it is still in very early phases, but even UE4 did not have an abundance of them although more frequent than UE5. UE5 lacks many customization options, but judjing from the placeholder interface and changelogs, these will be ported over from older version in the next updates. The animation viewer in UE5 is miles better but still does not allow for free panning of camera, only some premade tracks that you can move the camera along.

TLDR:
- GREAT games, quality matched by very few other games
- nice gameplay, UE5 more enjoyable/polished
- sex scenes could be more frequent
- UE5 lacks some custmization from UE4
- sex scenes lack free camera panning

I love the version on UE 4 it is great and fun. I hate that they have pretty much stopped developing it and left it Dev hell while focussing on the UE5 version which I am calling Carnal Instinct 2 in my head since there are a LOT of differences between the two. The map is different, the start is pretty good in CI1 but is dog water is CI2 also for some weird reason this is yet another porn that has decided it needs a platforming section to further the story.
Whether one handed or not there are people like me that dispise platforming because we suck at it.

So TLDR: UE4 version is awesome (CI1) UE5 version is needs ALOT of work

The game was good already but after UE5 update it shows great promise. The scene viewer especially is much better and allows more dynamic experience. The gameplay has improved a lot and while it is still rough, it will easily get to industry standards. Currently it already has mounts, fun quests and characters, merchants and quite few opportunities to fuck. In my books it is already better than what Ubisoft publishes. Here hoping that the development will be successful and the game will be expanded a lot.

i purchased and downloaded this game from steam and it was an amazing game. waiting for more updates currently, and it could use more equipment and dungeons, but still a outstanding game. id recommend it to anyone who likes this particular genre.

3 stars as an indie rpg- primarily (if not borderline exclusively) for the models, graphics, and performance- but 2 stars as a porn game. The models are, for the most part, absolutely outstanding. Sadly, this only makes it worse when you basically never get any porn with them. It seems like the more seemingly well put-together an H-game is, and I do mean a playable game, not just an RPGM copy-paste title, the less actual porn you get.

The combat is stiff, the looting is dreadful, and traversal is just a slog. I've now played the UE4 and UE5 versions, and I'm still constantly left wondering...why? Why are people paying for this? If it were just a cutscene viewer, I'd understand it more, because the models really are nice...but it's not. It's a walking simulator with janky, horrendously boring combat that makes unmodded Skyrim more palatable.

This is really just not worth playing for porn. From what I saw of the story, though, it's at least trying. The voice acting is far and away better than most English porn VA that I come across, and most of what I saw was actually narrated. That's a level of quality you don't often see. Emotional delivery was always rather weak, but overall, it didn't detract from the experience. As for the story itself, my favorite part was actually the random NPCs you came across that met unfortunate fates. It's a nice detail that's great for immersing into the story.

But this is a porn game. I'm not here for the story. I'm fine with a good story included, but I'm here for the porn. I could get better story, VA, and gameplay from...basically anything else. The focus should be the porn, but with this game, it never has been. It's perfectly mediocre as a game, but downright terrible as a porn game. For the time you'll have to invest, there simply are no returns. That can be applied to this as a game, really, but clearly SOME people like the..."gameplay" enough to keep going back.

But I sure as fuck don't recommend wasting your time on it. A real shame. There are some damn nice asses in this.

Don't really get why this is so highly rated. The original UE4 version was not so good and the UE5 version is in many parts just straight up worse. In both you have to do a lot of walking, boats are not really useful as much as a necessity if you want to quickly cross to another island. The Animations are not really that good either. I don't see any graphical improvements if I'm honest, Animation is in many parts worse, fighting system has been dumbed down to be much more simple.
Tons and tons of quests that could be part of any other RPG out there. Like you won't even have any H-scene with any of the quests.
The H-scenes that are there are fairly low quality. At least in the UE4 version of the game they had like cutscene like scenes, those were much higher quality than the ones you have in the UE5 version.
Fights used to be much more fluent I feel, now they're kind of stuff and rigid.
But overall its like some Unity project with a lot of make-up on. Like sure the characters themselves look good. But that's really it.
Game gives me the vibes that the devs don't really want to make a H-game, they want to make a regular game, set in a mythological Egyptian world. Well then makes me wonder why they don't just do that.

Definitely has potential to becum a really cool Game, but the Males moaning with female voices when getting fucked by the Centaur stallion is a big turn-off for me and also the potential for cum-inflation for Bottom-Males when bred by bigger Species is missing, despite that being a huge potential thing (even with physics and all - could include plug to keep the seed inside after having been bred and even have slushing sound with the inflated belly, that enables healing from the nutrients of the Semen, that's been injected etc.).

Well, if the devs are so limited to heteronormative "Kinks" only, I don't really like it...these "anal potentials" are also applicable for females and Futas, btw., even though the pregnancy part might need to expel the semen "unused" after fertilization then...which could be mitigated by inventive magical aspects or items even since this is obviously part of this Fantasy-Realm, too.

So, there's loads of unused potential, but I see why the female Protagonists (including Futa-content) is probably making up the larger "audience" and therefore preferred (again)...

It's still got a long way to proper inclusion of all potential sexual "configurations", it seems to me and until that's achieved, it's not my cup of tea really.

Also: please change those creepy slit-eyes for (human) Males...when you finally include them in your portfolio with all the Love they deserve as protagonists...

Exceptionally developed and very entertaining with all its features compared to all other games in the genre out there. Especially for an alpha (pre-alpha) version.
I wish there's an update on this game soon.

This game has a lot going for it as far as conceptual design and overall current gameplay.

It doesn't lean too far into being a fapbox and is leaning heavily into being a full-fledged ERPG.

I am very excited to see this game reach its goal and am ready to support it. I am always saddened when I see games with great conceptual designs get abandoned before they can be completed.

I really hope the aforementioned does not come to pass for Carnal Instinct.

The devs shoud lean into creating a PORN game and not a below-average run of the mill RPG.

Instead of making a bland open world with eye-candy graphics, they should put those resources into actually improving the fidelity of the sex interactions. The sex animations refrain from showing the action up-close due to the fact that there is no real penetration happening.

How about adding penetration physics, sweat/tears, more poses, body collisions? That's what is missing in this game.

Really glad to see a high-quality game that (mostly) just contains furry/scalie characters (It'd be infinitely better if it also contained avian characters, feral characters, and no human characters).

The game is in pre-alpha still at the time of writing this, so I can't complain too much about any lack of features, although I do want to say that I hope a lot more gets added to the character customization before the game is finished and/or abandoned. I also hope they don't focus too heavily on traditional gameplay, because with the UE5 version that seems to be the way they are going, it seems to have significantly drifted away from sexual things, aside from semi-revealingly dressed NPCs for the most part. The UE4 version had a lot more sexual options and opportunities, which was great. But anyways, like I said, hope the focus gets shifted more back towards sex and such, plus I hope there ends up being minimal focus on humans.

Not sure I should even really throw my two cents in here as I am sure I lack the eloquence of some of the reviewers but here we go.

I have played both versions of this game, that being U5 and U4, I feel like in the long run the switch to U5 will have been the right move but otherwise I feel like it has set back development unnecessarily far; which is fine, I hope that this developer can prove themselves to be able to complete this game even after the remaking of it; part of me hopes that they will complete both but that just feels like wishful thinking.

This game feels like it quite possibly has more potential than even some of my favorite games on this site, as it stands I wouldn't count it as one of them but holy hell; I could see this being one of the most mechanically sound H-games of all time, I hope they can refine it to the point where combat could rival even many non-H-games.


My only complaint is that as far as I can tell, in both versions; pregnancy is only implied and not implemented. This complaint may very well not age well, perhaps as of the writing of this it is actully not applicable, in which case; my bad.

Played U4 version and U5.

U4: Enjoyable, really nice. Graphics are good. You can get lost on some of the early quests but the guide takes care of that. Sex scenes are nice -- the orgasm-o-meter is something i dont see much of [or when i do, it gains at a steady rate no matter pose/speed]. Unlocking the skins takes a good eye.

U5: Not worth downloading currently. 1st boss is hard. Almost no loot. Graphics are still good, you can't climb up things yet. Replace the U4 fast travel points for boring campfires.

Someone built their own little version of Ass-Creed/Skyrim, but with even more furries somehow.

It's an immersive-sim with great models, good animation-work and competent game-design. It's got combat, and beautiful environments, and even stuff to do in those environments. There's even voice-acting to go with the good models, imagine that.

The core of it is not that complex, and isn't actually too different from most other simple sandbox-games, but the restraint, poise and skill involved still make this a very refreshing implementation of all these styles. There are actual professional games that have done this concept worse.

Fucking Furries, man... They get stuff done.
