So I got back into playing this after a long time. The entire game has changed. I guess that was when they moved it to another engine. I'm on the official Steam version (I've bought the game because I want these people to keep making them).
It looks like they have taken a step back in terms of how much of the game is done, which is to be expected with an engine change. However, there are a few things which need to be fixed ASAP to even count this as an alpha. For one, they need to keep keybindings. Other games manage this through an ini file or something. There really isn't a good reason to have the key bindings reset every time you start the game.
Autosaves are also few and far between. I guess I just played a game with enough autosaves that manual saves were almost unneeded. In this game, quicksaves take the place of autosaves, so you have to remember to quicksave often, especially since dying to getting stuck on terrain isn't uncommon. However, unlike above, this is a preference thing, and doesn't really need to be addressed immediately.
It is hard to see which quests or features are unfinished and what are just stuck or bad. I started a romance with the... innkeeper or something? They used a term I'm not familiar with, but it seems that is pretty much what she is. Not sure how to make the quest proceed as it only says to talk to her, but all dialog has been exhausted. Eventually another line of dialog opened up, but no indication what lead to that. I'm suspecting either level, carnal level, presence, or maybe even just time. However, she really hasn't gone much farther. IT would be ironic if it was gated behind carnal level as she originally didn't want you cheating on her. "Hey, I don't want you to cheat on me, but you need to sleep with at least 60 other women before I'll take you." Either way, I'm haven't progressed and can't tell if the next part isn't ready, or if there is something I need to do first.
The combat is pretty clunky. There are more options than they had before, but it still seems to mostly come down to melee, since magic gets interrupted. The monsters generally fall into "super easy, barely an inconvenience", "you are going to lose some HP and will need potions to fight", and "sponge tank, long fight you will need to abuse mechanics to slog it through".
Most of the 'scenes' are shallow and not much more interesting than watching a video. The ones I found myself returning to were ones where the dialog changes and their attitude changes the more you are with them. One seems to be a prototype for the impregnation system in the game. She was probably the best as her attitude changes towards you (and different dialog) depending on how many times she has given birth. She also has unique dialog depending on how pregnant she is, and different callouts (out of conversation dialog) that changes depending on if she is currently pregnant or not.
I'd like more of that. Not necessarily them getting pregnant, but for the dialog and possibly even the action to change depending on how many times you have been with them.
There were also issues where a quest would give a vague directions like "find the lost sword" but no one had mentioned a sword and there was no indication where she lost it. Wasn't even sure if I should check under the bad or on another continent. After you find it, there is plenty of dialog explaining that she had lost it, and where, but it is gated BEHIND you already coming across it.
There are some scenes where it SAYS there is a scene there, but upon talking to the person, and the person explaining that you have fulfilled the plot points needed to sex them up, it just goes to an Exit dialog. Again, I can't tell if it is unfinished, it I have the wrong equipment, or what. In the previous games, there were some women who wouldn't lie with you if you were too large for them, or if you weren't large enough, or depended on what equipment you were packing. If that is still the case for this scene, there is no indication.
With that said, I'm still exploring. I really like the style of the game, and that they attempt to address a large number of fetishes. Unfortunately at this stage in development most are just a checkbox. I'm hoping they can get some of the general mechanics fleshed out for the game to be more playable, and then begin fleshing out the scenes. While it might make sense for some of the characters to not recognize you coming for seconds, I feel like there should be at least two or three lines for most characters depending on if you have done them zero, once, or more times. Also, more reaction in the scene when you find the correct 'action' they like. Perhaps in scene dialog should be rarer in zones they find less enjoyable, and perhaps more frequent, louder, and or wilder when you find the spot they like.
Edit: I went in the wiki (I had avoided it because of spoilers, but I guess I've gotten far enough to not worry about that anymore). Confirmed that a lot of the things I couldn't figure how to advance were simply because they aren't finished yet.
