Last I checked you only need the cross to go into inaccessible areas and those have crosses on the door.
From what I see you are on the right of the map that door should be accessible.

Define save, the gallery is auto unlocked last I checked the only thing you really need to do is beat the boss.

The version with the chapel only has the chapel. For the other stages you'll need to play a version before the chapel was added.

You gotta find the cross and the apocrypha or whatever the book is called and then unlock a door which will lead to the entrance of the fight. The boss is a real pain to defeat so expect a long line of attempts.
