Right?!! Immigrant visa software engineers and temp agency software engineers.
To be clear I don't have any contempt for the workers who are just trying to make the best of a bad situation, I save it for the golf-playing, tennis playing, cocaine-snorting, escort fucking indolent execs who exploit them so they can get a better quarterly bonus and have the price of their stock options go up a half of a percent.

Ya I found it alarming in this instance as I've installed so many Ren'Py games over the last couple of years, and this is the first time I ever had one of the files get flagged. And I think it was a week or two back another member had mentioned coming across an infected file at one of the other file hosters (for a different game) so as soon as I saw that flag, I blew away the .zip that was downloaded and all decompressed files and then downloaded from another source.

I usually aim for torrents from places like RPDL but this one was struggling to find seeders last night so that's what led me to trying the fixed download sources for a change.
I have seen similar reports about Ren'Py games mostly, but in the past also RPGM and Unity games, several reports per year that I have personally read and answered to.
Pretty much all of them false flagged by Windows Defender, a few by Malwarebytes and then maybe some other AV's like Avira and Avast.

Since I joined F95, only one report of those I've seen was correct and the file linked here in this case was not uploaded by our dedicated uploaders and wasn't posted in the OP of a thread. I don't remember details any more, but it was downloaded from svscomics and reposted here in good faith.

In all other cases a simple check of the suspected file on has proved it to be a false positive and completely safe.

Windows Defender false flagging executable files and even random plain text files of Ren'Py and other indie game engines is a well known problem. A simple search on this forum for words like "trojan" or "virus" or "false positive", "windows defender" or "malwarebytes" will give you a lot of similar cases. Personal experience of one person (including myself) is just not good enough to draw conclusions. I'm just saying that I've seen many similar reports before and links in the OP are checked and so far proved to be safe.

Just "for fun" I downloaded the file from Racaty:
ChasingSunsets-0.5b.zip
MD5: 473E2F205A31FBB4B2E3EBF52E0E5879
SHA-256: DDA608E1038D43FAACB1FEB00BB5755B088DBB98D94F5EC7C5E411BB85106BAB

And compared both launcher exe files "Chasing Sunsets.exe" and "Chasing Sunsets-32.exe" with the ones from the previous release of v0.5 I downloaded from MEGA when it was released a while back. The files were identical. That alone should already be enough.
I also added file hashes sha256 and md5, so anyone can verify and compare with their own results, that these are in fact the same files.

Bash:
user@pc:/cygdrive/z/tmp/ChasingSunsets-0.5b-pc-to-check/ChasingSunsets-0.5b-pc$ diff -s "Chasing Sunsets.exe" "../../ChasingSunsets-0.5/Chasing Sunsets.exe"
Files Chasing Sunsets.exe and ../../ChasingSunsets-0.5/Chasing Sunsets.exe are identical.

Files Chasing Sunsets-32.exe and ../../ChasingSunsets-0.5/Chasing Sunsets-32.exe are identical
user@pc:/cygdrive/z/tmp/ChasingSunsets-0.5b-pc-to-check/ChasingSunsets-0.5b-pc$ openssl dgst --sha256 "Chasing Sunsets.exe"

Virustotal results for "Chasing Sunsets.exe" are:

A clean slate even by Jiangmin, the king of false positives.

And "Chasing Sunsets-32.exe":

The last one was flagged by Jiangmin and SecureAge APEX (No idea about that one). That's 2 of 69, one of them well known for false positives.

This is a typical result for all the virus reports of Ren'Py games. Windows Defender can not be trusted when it says that something is malicious. You need "an alternative opinion", best to get 69 of them from Virustotal.

Just to be clear, Microsoft does not hire software engineers from temp agencies, or use people with foreign work visas as software engineers. Maybe for lower level support staff. As for golf-playing, tennis playing, cocaine-snorting, escort fucking indolent execs: You have them confused with Amazon. Peace. Out.

Just a general question about this game, folks, I've finished its current content through Ch4; has the dev stated how many chapters they are planning for the story overall?
Thanks.

I found Jaye cute at the begining, got feed up with her at the point where she doesn't speak with the MC anymore for a stupid reason, by the time she beats him at the grad party i wanted to have nothing to do with her.
She ruined the Tara sex scene, althought that was not her fault.
By the time they spoke with their 'lawsuit' i couldn't care less about her.
When she reads the MC's diary, after just having a heart to heart talk, i wanted to throw her overboard and have no qualms about screwing her over for more profit.
I'll start off by saying you're entitled to your opinion. That said, in my humble opinion, you've really missed the central motivators in Jaye's and the MC's relationship. Heh. Really missed it. Even more so, you've missed the impact of the MC's entire history with Jaye. Feel free to go ahead and try to screw Jaye over, but be prepared for that to end very badly for you.

Nuance. It's almost always interesting in a developing narrative. Lot's of nuance in this relationship, which you've apparently missed.

It's not so much that i missed their motivations, feelings and reasons...i just didn't like it, nor Jaye to be honest, basically from the get to go and that hasn't really changed.
Well i did choose to let her drown...so yeah i'm not surprised if the path to screw her over doesn't end well, i will try it nonetheless

Worst case i will do a other run and just ignore her.
And as long as i can go back to the Aspen girls i'm satisfied.

And yeah, i get it that it is a rather unpopular opinion, but Jaye just rubs me the wrong way, at nearly every chance...understanding her doesn't change that.

Believe what you want. But all this is off topic and due to be deleted. Let's just both be glad we had a chance to vent our spleen.

I disagree, I like how Jaye is characterised. I thought the Tara sex scene was really hot. So many feelings in that scene, Tara is into the MC, MC likes Tara but loves Jaye, Jaye is already fucking her Best friend Tara, but she loves the MC. MC and Jaye can’t risk admitting their feelings because of the taboo, meanwhile Tara accepts that side of both of them and willing to make a personal sacrifice to try and make them both happy. The only scene I think competes is Rikka rubbing one out while MC bangs her mum in the ass.

My biggest complaint is similar to the diary one of yours. The game keeps adjusting the story when it doesn’t need to. For example, MC separating from Jaye when he overhears her friends, is a rational decision, justified in the moment, allowing them both to have a more normal life, then we find out actually no the MCs sacrifice is irrelevant and things would have worked out without.

The other example I didn’t feel was necessary was making the would be rapist have an abusive father, whilst also being asexual. In fact it’s more interesting if he’s a piece of shit who tried to rape Jaye and then you either redeem him or don’t through his actions later on.

Understanding her, (and understanding how the MC plays into that), is exactly what is required to change your reaction to Jaye. As I said Nuance. We can agree to disagree.

I found Jaye somewhat irritating at first, though the MC was at least as bad. But they both improved immensely in Chapter 2 once she and the MC were finally able to interact like adults without farcical shenanigans interrupting every 10 seconds. At this point my only complaint is having to play along with all the incest material when I just want to treat her like an actual sister and get on with the story.

On a similar note, I hated the Tara sex scene. I don't like clueless protagonists and the MC was in rare form during this one. Plus there's the whole incest by proxy angle, which also fell flat for me. To cap it off, the scene is unskippable; I get why that is since it's plot-bearing, but it didn't do much to endear itself to me.

To each their own, I suppose.

I agree, the game feels a bit like it's gilding the lily at times. I didn't think we needed any additional explanation for why the MC left or why Jaye took his departure so badly. I'd rather focus on how the two handle it now that they're back on the same page.

The other example I didn’t feel was necessary was making the would be rapist have an abusive father, whilst also being asexual. In fact it’s more interesting if he’s a piece of shit who tried to rape Jaye and then you either redeem him or don’t through his actions later on.
To be fair to the game, he is still a piece of shit who tried to rape her. Christian's backstory does not change that.

That said, I do agree that the additional backstory seems unnecessary; he's a minor character and what we already had worked just fine. If you want to show he's mended his ways, do so by showing how and why he's changed. Don't do it by retroactively amending his crimes and/or motivation, it becomes a distraction.
