Didn't look that gentle in the final, sparking scene.

@Conviction07 Sure. I am running at 1080ti and a 2080ti which thanks to support i was able to get right after DA. I do run octane and things are changing a bit for me because the first half of this version i had barely a clue what i was doing. Now i do to a degree. So let's take a render I did after i got the hang of things and one of my favorites.

View attachment 246762 View attachment 246761

First image is from lightroom before post just took a screen grab cause i cant save out without removing the color grade. So i set my color grade in light room. Takes a few minutes to do for one render in a scene then i copy that grade to all other renders in said scene. Then save them all out. After that i clean up any really bad pixellation and then sharpen areas i want to sharpen. So an entire scene is about 30 minutes now of post work. This can change if there is something crazy happening like dust flying through the air or what not but typical shots its not bad. I try to do everything in render.

The reason the color looks so off in the first is because i use what is known as linear light in octane. This gives much more flexibility during post. In octane i will preview it with a few different luts to ensure i have nice shadows and contrast because the linear wont show that. When I'm happy with the render i switch back to linear add any post effects from octane that i want to it then save it.

That image was about 25 minutes i think. Some though can be an hour others can be 10 minutes, I am also on average for this release going to 15K iterations per shot, i'm going to lower that a bit next release to probably do 10 to 12 k and denoise it in octane to remove grain in the Dof, I am not seeing a loss in quality. I did this on the final shots of the game with the big guy. Also note I'm using the path tracing kernel not direct light in octane.
Thank you for all that break-down!
About 15k samples though... Just to make sure, you are using Adaptive Sampling in Octane, yeah? (Actually not sure if it's available in Daz plugin) but if it is, it can cut the render times in almost half. By recognizing which parts in the render have noise and require more samples (shadows etc) then it focuses the GPU power on only those parts. I've been working with C4D's Ocatne plugin for all of my client works for the past 2-3 years.

@ppoooors yep i do. I'm also lowering to 10k and using the denoise from this point on. I only have 3 months knowledge with it currently so still playing around. If there was no character on screen hell i could even do like 1k iterations but I find the hair is what lengthens time.

Yeah I think using an alpha map for the hair requires more sampling for whatever reason. Maybe because Octane has to calculate the shadows of the hair out of the alpha map, instead of geometry?
Nonetheless, spot rendering can helpful for hair too!

BTW do we know who the girl narrating and asking you your name at the very start of the game is? All we see are her eyes, maybe i am bad at figuring out who it is. Is it someone already introduced or a surprise character that will make her actual appearance further down the line?

wow @Philly_Games you have definitely raised the bar for other devs yet again... I haven't gotten through the prologue before I was completely blown away.. plus the title sequence... I think other devs are falling behind your mastery of not only cinematics but also story-telling. You've definitely caught my eye with this one, congratulations, I can tell this is going to be another great success

Anyone else feel that the big guy is actually a good dude?
He saved her twice so i'm going to guess he isn't all evil at least but I still doubt he's just going to hand her over and make our lives easy.

Although, if this follows typical thriller plot lines, i'm going to also guess that maybe not handing her over to anyone would be better for her health.

I don't trust either of the women that hired us.

Those eyes at the beginning of the game sure have a Victoria feel to them...

Not usually a big fan of the sci-fi/futuristic games when it comes to this genre, but coming from Philly had to play. Wow! Renders, story, animations, music, everything is fucking top notch! This is one of those games where porn content takes a backseat for me because everything else is so fucking good!
