It's been only a couple of months since despiteful posted an update here (just above your post, ofc), so normally I wouldn't think so. However, it looks like their Patreon page isn't active now. So I'm not sure what the situation is right now.
The dev is active on Itch and just replied to comments a month ago...
Also, there's a reason their Patreon page was hidden. This is from about 2 months ago:

Seeing as how it is abandoned and has been for a long time, I do not see it ever being updated.
That's possible. However, the dev stated at the very end of November last year that they were pausing payments because of lack of time. That's almost 8 months ago, yes, but I wouldn't necessarily write this game off entirely yet. I've seen longer breaks than that before an on-hold game continued. Every developer is different, so we'll have to see how things play out for Despiteful.
You might think that, but that's very often untrue. Many devs never bother doing so. So I still think you're jumping the gun.
