iirc, the dev only planned three acts (ending with Europe trip) but started tacking on an Act 4 because the game was popular. They added two parts of "Act IV" but the game was buckling under the weight of spaghetti code (and the sheer size of the content people had to download) so they decided to make a clean break and split the game.I'm assuming the "before rework" version is just a legacy version... the "Act 1" and then "Act 2" should cover all of it.
Also, why can't they just be named CK and CK2? the whole "act" thing hasn't been used for years and it's just confusing...![]()
"Before rework" is that last official version that limps along after the end of the Europe trip, adding two parts of Act IV's story. This should probably be removed to reduce confusion, but I suspect there's a purist somewhere who thinks this version is superior... maybe there was content removed from the first three acts during the rework? I'd be interested in knowing, but far too busy / lazy to manually compare the two releases.
"College Kings 1" is the re-release that removes that extra content, fixes some bugs, adds some more bugs, and gives a clean story break at the conclusion of the Europe trip. You can supposedly export your saved game to import into CK2, but I can't recall that feature ever actually working for anybody. This should, in theory, be identical to the "College Kings 1" game that is available on Steam for free.
"College Kings 2" got a new launcher, title screen, and the incomplete Act 4 content that was removed from CK1, plus has been the vessel for all other releases to date.
We'll get another clean break and a "College Kings 3" game at some indeterminate future date.
The first page here is confusing because what it calls "Act I" is really "College Kings 1" (which contains Acts 1 - 3) and "Act II" here is "College Kings 2" (which contains Acts 4 - 6). Someone who has rights to edit that post can likely clear up a LOT of confusion by just editing those two captions.
