Fair enough, it's made by the same dev. But I still can't see how this can be a preview of something in the game with it's entirely different art style.
I thought the same when I first saw the render.

But maybe it's something they're watching on a video screen???

The down side of games with long update times is that by the time the next one hits what ever emotional connection to the story that we had is long expired. It's kind of like that new GOT show that has 2-3 years between seasons. I loved the 1st season. But when the 2nd season hit I could barely remember the characters names, let alone care.

That's why the only winning strategy is to never play the games until they are abandoned or complete.

Just gaze longingly at the preview images, cover your eyes and peek cautiously through your fingers at the discussion thread so as to avoid spoilers, and edge yourself to sleep every night with barely tolerable anticipation of how good it is going to be.... one day, it will be yours...

Tho some games I might replay every 2 updates just depends on what games I'm wanting to play , how my backlog is and how busy I am. I'm probably gonna replay this one come next update gonna buy it on steam in a few weeks.

Some one posted a review complaining about MC and how his actions and thoughts don't align with the "super tactician" reputation that the other characters keep commenting on. What a way to miss the point!

MC himself says that it has been luck, not skill, that lead to the battlefield successes. And it's clearly stated that the military forces have been using him as a literal poster-child for propaganda purposes, building him up to be something superhuman. In truth he is a young man battling personal demons.

Separately to that: even if The Officer is a tactical combat genius, he is now thrown into a espionage situation, with multiple parties each with their own agenda - even including his own controllers. Why would skills on a battlefield, dealing with fields of fire, maneuvers, and tactical information gathering somehow translate to success in such a clusterfuck of lies and betrayal?

I think some people just didn't quite understand The Officer's own wants. They might expect him to be someone who is constantly showing off or just succeeding because that's what an AVN MC should be doing. Like the type of MCs you'll find in many LN/Isekai anime.

But my vision for him is that he is someone who is persistently restricted by circumstances outside his control and also his own guilt. That's his trial and tribulation. It is his journey to overcome these challenges that will make him an interesting protagonist. And you just can't get there without being beaten and defeated first. I understand the appeal of seeing the MC, who is supposed to be the player's insert to be a badass that is kicking ass and bedding every LI already, this isn't that kind of story.

Another thing to consider is the value of the supporting characters. What's the point of building up all these characters if they are powerless when put next to the MC? Each of them are special at what they do, they are specialists. They can be a powerful tool for the MC, or a powerful foe. And they can't be either of those if the MC is too good at overcoming any obstacles he might face.

And I think some people just selectively ignore all the little things the MC have already done to show what he can do despite everything.

But ultimately, in all honestly, I just think the game isn't for them if they can't understand the story. You can blame it all on the writer for not telling the story well enough for you, but this is story I want to tell and I tell it the way I find interesting to me. I'm not going to waste my time working on something I don't personally enjoy. I'm not going to try to appeal to people who don't like the game or want it to be something it isn't.
