Sorry, but there's way better entertainment to be had for way less money than what that gadget costs. The couple of people I know who have such a thing all admitted that it's been gathering dust for the past two years, and that it's not even a selling point to them anymore for games they purchase.
Sure, vr is not for everyone and it's not made to compete against consoles or desktop. Its something most of us just add to the gaming rig, to play cosmosim, fly sims, racing sim, to play games like beatsaber, half life alyx, even competitive shooters, or chat (vr chat has 10.000+ online daily). The thing is, you may dont like it, be lazy to use it, be dissapointed with current tech which evolves each year - but still you can sell this headsets easily, the demand is very high. Claiming its a gimmick that no one going to use is just completely wrong, its definitely not same thing as 3d vision. Sure, its going to be outdated someday, someday we wont be alive on that earth where the tech achives photolealistic hologramms or neuralinks for entertainment (cheap, advanced, safe, compatible, in a reality similar to cyberpunk). VR is our current reality and i doubt you'll see a better alternative in the near future.
Already did: AR with VR capabilities. It was sadly no match to the Oculus hype going on at the time, most of the media simply didn't bother covering it because it wasn't Oculus. Though even if AR had taken the lead, it wouldn't have been more than a novelty for the niche market of gadgeteers.
