Yeah, umm... buddy that's not patronage at this point, people who pay him are supporting him for the game, shit that he's releasing like artwork, wallpapers, etc. are just extras, and if he doesn't release anything game related, he's basically running a scam with extra steps, lobesod has a point here
Other than that is literally what patronage is. The patron(s) support the artist's lifestyle who then produces things. All the artwork and wallpapers ARE part of the game, part of the project.

Then write your own story.

We established from act 1 that Morgana wants to subjugate or kill all of humanity, the humans that know about the Fey want to kill ALL the Fey period, and with extreme themes of mind control on the MC's part. What do you think was going to happen story wise besides a war?

This is Arc's game, Arc's story, and the groundwork for the war has been there from the earliest versions.
That's true. But if Arc doesn't want to make a game other people actually like and want to play, then I guess Arc can pay their own fuckin bills lol???

As people love to point out, he has over a thousand supporters still, so they obviously DO want to play his game.

THAT'S HOW PATRONAGE WORKS! If you believe in the artist, you support them. If you don't, then you don't. No one is holding a gun to your head and saying "Donate to him NOW!"

Im not saying the people who support him are stupid, they do it in some kind of believe, but why pay for something you dont get. Instead send the money to me and once a month ill have a nice BIG gardenparty with free BBQ and beer, for all players of the game, but you have to pay the ticket to my place by yourself (Ishoej, south of Copenhagen in Denmark)

Yes. That's the benefit of patronage. If you don't like it, don't support it! If you're here as a non-supporter just bitching about things you have no money in, then quit your damn bitching and ignore the thread.
Hold on, benefit of patronage? Benefit to who exactly? It's like you're a YouTuber and you tell your subs to donate and there’s a big project coming and basically never delivering on that promise.
Wake up man, I said it and I'll say it again, if he doesn't release anything of value soon then he's scamming people out of their money, period, what patronage is, is that you support the creator to give you what you originally supported him for, meaning that you support ARC for that game he promised, all that extra shit he's releasing is just supplementary material, and a way to manipulate people to continue donating, making them think he's actually working while he's clearly not

I hate checking up on threads like this and seeing that it's been A WHOLE YEAR since the last release with no meaningful updates despite having a growing social media account. Seriously, why are people throwing money into an incinerator? Let's really break it down a bit.

To keep things simple, let's look at the ~500 $5 subs. That's ~2500 dollars a month from just that tier.
When was the last release? 1/28/25
As a 5$ subscriber, what have you received since then? 4 Wallpapers. No, I'm not kidding.
How much did you pay for these wallpapers spread out through a year? $55.
How much did they earn from $5 subs alone in that time? $27,000

There was also a Fan Art competition. Which is another scam. The prize pool was $500. Oh, that sounds pretty g- TOTAL. It was only $300 for first place. Brother, in many cases, a single detailed commission is $200. They basically got a ton of art commissioned for free, and had them all compete to get slightly above the normal pay rate. Which of course means the winner was probably a pretty nice piece, and means he essentially got a discount on that as well. Imagine if you didn't win or you got third which was only $50. That's way under cost for a good commision.

There was also an 'Anniversary' post which was just a bunch of fluffy language. There was no anniversary update for the game. Not even a new build just fixing bugs. No update to the game at all.

Anyone defending this is trolling. No one subscribes to someone for $5 a month for 4 wallpapers a year. You don't have to update the game constantly, but a year between updates is crazy when you look at the post history. I personally think the anniversary one is the saddest. A celebration of a game that isn't being worked on with 70+ likes on the post and a ton of supportive comments as well.

Per Merriam-Webster
Patronage - Noun
1) Advowson(noun - the right in English law of presenting a nominee to a benefice)
2) The support or influence of a patron(THIS IS THE BIG ONE)
3) Kindness done with an air of superiority
4) Business or Activity provided by Patrons

Patron - Noun
1) Synonyms of Patron
-a: a person chosen, named, or honored as a special guardian, protector, or supporter
-b: a wealthy or influential supporter of an artist or writer(THIS IS THE BIG ONE)
-c: a social or financial sponsor of a social function (THIS IS THE BIG ONE TOO)
2) one that uses wealth or influence to help an individual, an institution, or a cause(THE FINAL BIG ONE)
3) one who buys the goods or uses the services offered especially by an establishment
4) the holder of the right of presentation to an English ecclesiastical benefice

So, by definition, ALL crowdfunding is patronage. YOU DECIDE IF THEIR PROJECT IS WORTH SUPPORTING. That is it. It is not a scam. It takes time to make things. And as a patron in the B, C, and 2 definitions of a patron, you can decide to withdraw your patronage (as in definition 2 of Patronage) if you no longer support the artist. Now, I get it. In today's hustle economy where if you can't produce you are a drain on society(which is of course a HUGE FUCKING LIE spread by the wealthy to accumulate and hoard more wealth), the idea of ACTUAL patronage feels alien. But, and this is the secret, the only contract that he signed is with Subscribestar (now). Meaning, if they aren't penalizing him, he's keeping his end of the bargain, and therefore is NOT scamming anyone.

If you think that's all it is, put your money where your mouth is. Make a game. Go do it. If it's that simple and all he is doing is scamming people, go prove me wrong. I'll wait.
