Who is playing MGD for the main story?

What even is the main story?

I've never understood why so many people want games like this to be "finished". I'd love it if content released a lot faster sure, but the game can go on forever imo as long as the quality is there.
I think it's less about the non-existent story and more about progression in general. Most people want to feel like they're actively working towards something and implementing a ton of dead-end side characters doesn't help with that. When you just keep spamming content in existing areas instead of pushing things forward, it fucks with the gameplay loop, which can be a big deal. Instead of adventuring through dungeons towards the ultimate goal of beating the demon queen while romancing monster girls on the side, you just sort of bum around for an indefinite amount of time without actually engaging in the core systems of the game in a meaningful way.

Personally I don't mind it too much as long as the side content that gets introduced is meaningful and has some sort of depth to it, but like 4 years of having the same areas with the addition of like one dungeon(could be wrong, don't know if there's content past Labyrinth) is... kinda ridiculous. Especially with the game being in development for over 6 years total.

It's been almost 4 years since main story was put on "pause". They've been adding only 1 or 2 side characters once in a blue moon ever since.
Actually last story update whas 31.3.2023 when we can finally go to the capital. But the problem is not that Threshold had added to few side characters but that he is now working on Side Characters just as we get finally a new thing of Story content.

This. We got finally to the capital. We got finally another important point about the story and then after it it is all about a slime village and adding stuff for side characters.

Well slime village has some meaning to it as it is the typicall backwater village place that is kind of run down and also is like half about explaining why Perpetua our rival has gotten the ambition of becomming the next demon queen.
Personally I would have had no problem with it would it not just happen to come exactly after we are finally allowed to enter the capital. And Threshold decided to not just work another few years without content so we can have capital in one big patch so instead he is going to split it into several ones. But when already the slime village is taking three updates how many updates is going to take the biggest city on the planet?

You are suppossed to be just another adventurer wanting to become a hero and do humanity a service why fighting against monsters and defeating the demon queen. But arriving on the continent it turns out that the monsters have no more desire to war and instead only search for husbands as most are content that on the whole island the only way to fight is to fuck. And also somehow is all what the "free" adventure school teached you useless and they scammed you by not being allowed to leave the continent without paying a tution fee that is in the local currency who is useless outside of it as it is generated via sex energy and so also tends to disappear after some time or having to defeat the demon queen.
Then to make the mystery even bigger Venerae the goddess who is suppossed to be missing for thousands of years is now suddenly talking to you and only you. Later on you also find out you have to collect all four gems to prove you are worthy of entering the castle but those actually not the real ones and instead just copies to give out like gym badges in Pokémon and instead someone tried to steal all of the true gems. Then there is another plot point when you talk with Venefica which is further expanded when you enter the capital but I do not want to spoil.

Because either a game is a mainly sandbox like game where instead of one big plot you have little local plots only about a character or you have little sub plots. Depending on this the progress is different. If you decide to focus about Sandbox you can do it like Paradox and just deliver more and more and more and more updates as long as your community pays. Meanwhile if it is a big plot game then people want to know how it continues and being resolved. Because most people long for answers and can not really stand having things left unresolved. Most infamous for it is Tower of Trample. Just as the game decided to turn away from "just fight the next domina" to it having your childhood sweetheart somehow being one of them and asking you to let to past burried and just go away" it went on the four year delay.
CoC2 is actually an example of doing this the other wayy round. First starting to be big plot but soon resolving most of the mystery and then choosing to be more of a game for doing local things.
Of course it is possible to combine the two playstiles but that needs either focus or brilliant writing. You could first start with the troupe that you need to rescue the world to go out with your girl and after the main plot have it being an open world playground or you could do it other way round that during the open world playground after reaching a certain completion you suddenly have main story but this is way harder to pull of.

Lots of content for already established characters, like succubus boss in the tower, was gated behind getting to the capital for years. They're locking progressing character stories behind reaching main plot milestones. Of course it matters if main plot gets continued or not.
And they don't add any content for older side characters. That one orange lizard girl had been completely abandoned. So it's not like they give a fuck about developing side characters either. Just adding more and more one-off cardboards.

Isn't it obvious? They're not into that. That and the fact that almost no one else is into that, too. There's no incentive for them, monetary or not.

It's also why futas are so prominent and maybe why many of them are not herms, something I'm thankful for.

I think that's people in general. Futa is now basically a word to describe women with dongs. The damage is already done, honestly, so I think they should use "herm" to make it distinct.

More that they were people who ended up becoming friends with the inner circle and successfully avoided drama. Either by just missing it outright or taking Fen's side when he was being a bit unreasonable. And if the talent that made CoC1 what it was still existed in it's entirety we'd be in a different state altogether.

But they're not. Most of the writers for the majority of the characters people like dropped out before CoC1 even finished. So what you have left when a person who only liked the single fetish and none of the others is a game that exhibits that fetish and none of the others. A TF game with hardly any TF support. A corruption game with no corruption.

Edit: After having the morning coffee and being a bit more lucid. I've gotten way off point. There's not that many dickgirls. The goblin, Etheryn, Alissa or however that's spelled, whatever that beer lizards named, Evelyn, that one chick in the woods. And that's it isn't it?

The reason behind it is that usually, some of the best works are written because the writer/s are passionate about something. Variety might be the spice of life, but realistically speaking, if CoC2 devs wrote about things they didn't care about - I feel like the quality would have dropped off much harder. By that point - they would just be fulfilling the diversity quota. They would create, write and add character they don't fully care about because they exist just to add one hyper-specific fetish that a lot of people like and not because anyone on the dev team has anything to say or do with that character.

A lot of best porn games are hyper-specific. They target 1 specific fetish and make a game where it's the main idea. They might add a few complimentary fetishes and integrate them well enough, but "The Core Fetish" is still there. Fenoxo's games, meanwhile, sort of feel like... "We are X setting with EVERY fetish"? It's kinda why I never really bashed them for not giving attention to X or Y content, cause realistically speaking, just how much effort can they put into it when it's just a side thing?

I feel like for a game like CoC2 to actually be great with this concept it needs either
1) A rich cast of writers who have wide fetish range and can fill the gaps to allow every fetish to feel really solid
2) A single writer who is a massive pervert and can literally understand and immerse themselves into 90% of fetishes and nail every scene because they aren't biased - rather, they like everything.

Then again, people are very fond on CoC1 which, I've heard, did exactly that and I, admittedly, didn't play. So I am curious how that is handled there and if that problem was there and it wasn't, how it was solved.

This will probably be a hot take, but I wonder how much better CoC2 would be if they had the main writers for a few very vital story arcs and main story and a bunch of writers doing stuff for the side content designed to just add variety and implement their favorite fetishes into the game. But it feels like instead the writers all just want to add side content into areas they care about without thinking as to what... THE GAME is supposed to be.

If the writer is good enough it could work. By identifying what people enjoy about certain fetishes and the coomer logic behind them, they can do a pretty good job of writing something that's still hot that they're not into. Now is that to say they should work on things they don't necessarily enjoy half the time? No, but they could damn well at least TRY to venture outside the one or two things they're each into. Fuck sake I usually shy away from the more extreme stuff and even I'm into more shit than them.

At this point all that's really added to these games are just Sub/Dom shit, Obligatory horse cock, pregnancy, and a light sprinkling of voyeurism. That isn't the worst spread, but the problem is exacerbated because they write these things the same EVERY SINGLE TIME. There is no difference between Wsans 3 dommy futa centaurs. There is no difference between the Savin dickgirls that has alpha beta shit he's done in every single game. There is barely any difference between half the fucking characters that have pregnancy content.

The fetishes they stick to could be so much more bearable if they didn't spam the same exact character archetypes constantly and if they actually fleshed characters out. But they don't, so everything just melds together and feels samey as fuck.

You can be stuck in one of the two hells it seems:
A hell in which you have TiTS/CoC2 writers, writing the exact same things and never getting anything they don't personally like.
OR
A hell in which you have no prewritten scenes, but instead the game-ified choose-your-action *you do x, partner responds with y* tug-of-war with the AI like some games with single developer have, when the enemies are generic and randomized.

A singular vision but the smut is written without the creator's engagement, or a game that appeals to specific fetishes and inserts, and never strays despite the amount of writers.

Afaik the only staff they share besides Savin is programmers every once in a while. There was William, but he never did anything anyway.

The two things are almost entirely sseparate. Any problems with CoC2s schedule has little to nothing to do with TiTs.
