I'm not upset though? Does discussing things make people upset now?
I didn't say
you were upset over it. You were talking about theoretical people who might be upset by extra routes they had no personal interest in, and i was similarly talking about theoretical people who might be upset by lack of extra routes they wanted.
You're not really understanding what I'm trying to say. I'm trying to emphasize that all the work that went on these frivolous characters would be better spent on making more paths and fleshing out existing characters. In fact, your argument supports what I'm trying to say.
No, i think we're focusing on different aspects of what was discussed. We should keep in mind that talk about the "shallow characters" is basically a red herring -- these characters were already made. They can't be magically undone, with all the work put into them just spontaneously becoming new routes for other characters.
Any work on extra routes for existing characters, that's effort and time that'd need to be put entirely anew. And this newly produced content, it is going to be affected by how distribution across multiple routes makes additions to each of them relatively smaller than funneling all that effort in single path would produce.
More characters is not inherently good. I would take one character with depth over 10 shallow ones.
But more routes per character is not inherently good either, and that's basically what was originally claimed (and what's disputed)
"Character with depth" is, in this context, again a misdirection of sorts -- because having more than one personality/route per character doesn't necessarily equal
depth. It may very well mean just a choice between a few shallow options, and that in itself isn't "depth".
This isn't really an issue seeing as how we're supposed to be at the very edge of civilization anyway. Besides, people aren't playing these games for a populated world.
Well then, what do you think people are playing these games for? Because i think it's a reasonable presumption it is "porn content" in the sense of sex scenes involving a variety of characters. And as such, reducing the number of available characters works directly against meeting this expectation.
