According to patch notes, you can also do it if she's low confidence.

I mean it does make sense, Etheryn being locked is a huge problem. Setting aside the fact she won't be able to sire heirs and it robs her of dignity being a member of a royal family it also makes relieving herself a chore. It's also a symbol of her sister's control over her so freeing her from the cage is an act of mercy. She'll only put herself back on a cage if it's for someone she trusts and loves (in this case you) or if she's not confident enough that she just lets you do whatever.

Sure but when it bleeds into things that probably shouldn't have those fetishes, it becomes a problem. Imo the hallmark of a great porn writer is being able to write something you're not into, and still managing to make it appeal to the people who are into it.

I think pretty much the exact opposite. A great porn writer should be able take their feelings and what makes their knees go weak and transmit those feelings to the audience. That should be the gold standard, not being able to write about what other people want you to write about. That's how creatives of any kind burn out.

Do you seriously not see a problem if a game focuses on lovey-dovey romance shit for most of its development and then suddenly there's unavoidable NTR?
If the writer can make something that's appealing to people who have a fetish the writer doesn't have, the writer would obviously be able to do that for something they ARE into. If you're able to write something that's compelling while not aligning with your own interests, that shows more talent than just being good at what you want to write.
Only if they do that constantly, which isn't what I was implying they should do. Going outside of your comfort zone is important to grow when it comes to anything. If you just keep doing what you like constantly, the odds are pretty high you're just retreading old ground a lot. You can still have passion and write appealing things, even if they're not 100% up your alley. I'm not into femsub but I can still be passionate about writing it because it's interesting to see how I can make it appealing. I'm not into melodrama but sometimes it does interesting things if handled well so I use it sometimes.
If you're just writing to get your own rocks off, I can understand never leaving your niche. But if you're actually trying to improve on your skills and put real effort into creating, I don't see why it shouldn't be done from time to time. Cooks don't get better by making the same dish all the time. Illustrators don't get better by drawing the same thing over and over. Same thing applies to writing, even when it comes to smut.

All in all lame is actually the best word for this, and in many ways this update is just vintage CoC2. Could have been great, isn't because when push comes to shove those writers can't find it in themselves to not railroad the player down the path they would themselves pick. Praise the mushrooms that made Savin decide to give Arona two routes and develop them both.
