There are some post about it and you can find more on the steam page, but the main reason seems to be that because the first game had a bunch of mods with questionable stuff, some people got the idea that the devs were into those same fetishes. Thing is, the whole team is pretty... Let's say inconsistent with their material and the quality of it, easy to anger when questioned and quite sensitive to the point of picking personal vendettas against playersI don't understand why the creator hates mod support. I'd argue mods can help add to the game and help improve its longevity, as they can add features to the existing game, cut or otherwise, or overhaul the game to be a completely new experience. Look at Doom and Half-Life for example.
There's a quest about it because a guy dared to dream with a cat girl harem, and they couldn't stand that
So having the power to mod stuff is both an insult to their vision, that changes constantly, and to what they want to do with this game, which is to have the player being lame
Honestly, if their main argument was something like, not wanting people to associate certain mods to them because there's always the danger of having some youtuber putting a three hour documental, or a no life trending chaser bug person on X or bluesky with a bot farm and unresolved issues had them on aim, then yeah, I would understand not wanting people to mod the game because of a negative reaction, but more proposed mods here are about changing some interactions, make them more tame, adding some npc as companions and things like that
So to finally answer your question, is ego, massive amounts of ego
