The joke was that it's hilarious that interest in other men or any interactions with them is often treated as a minor or even irrelevant factor in determining whether something/someone is "gay" or not. The reason it only somtimes works for me is when the charaters are anthros and I also only read the text. If I look at thier art and it has mainly feminine definitions my interest sinks faster then the titanic and i skip the scene and just treat it as a necessary event to progress.
