He does it on purpose.
In case y'all haven't read his ethos, this was what he said about Kinu and Kiyoko respecting the champ's pronouns and about his writing in general.
Look, I get it: you want to write morally messy race and provoke. That’s fine. But provocation without consequence is just posturing. I actually can agree with him to a degree on how he writes his characters. With them being xenophobic, straight, not letting their scars get to them and not being particularly empowering. As a writer, power to him. Now before you guys get your pitchforks and roast my nuts on a grill, I'm just being fair. His real problem is that he doesn't write the champion actually being able to react or question these things. Instead, they are written as a simpering yes-man or someone who begrudgingly goes along with the flow. Which is weak pussy sauce, how the fuck are you going to write yourself as some intellectual psychic vampire who goes by his own rules but write the champ practically as a NPC? Why can't the champ call them out or point out flaws in their logic. Like how Nanako's head is up his ass, his security is shit, and his briliant idea of trying to 1v3 armed attackers was retarded. That depending on your champion, you could point out how he should be lucky the champ didn't kill him like he planned to kill them.
Not to mention there's no meaningful choices. You could’ve used clashes of opinion to create branching outcomes — exile, public trial, forced alliance, there was alot of shit you could have worked in that could have made becoming the Keros chosen worth a damn. Like it makes sense why the champ themselves wouldn't have much impact on kitsune society as a whole, but these guys are far removed from it and shouldn't be so self-sufficient considering they are basically invaders and rapist for chi. But no-one bothers them outside of a group of fox dudes worshiping a god from another universe that, surprise, surprise, THE CHAMP CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT. It's Boring and Lazy. Like, no one really gives a shit about the kitsune in game or out of it because they do nothing, and you can do nothing with them. You could have had the champ be able to help them with alot of their issues and have them change based on how the champ treats them and vice-versa. While the kero chosen champ would get way better treatment and could get involved with Kitsune politics and shit. Perhaps even find a way to get Kiyiko back as the head of her family. But nope. You half-assed it, the 8,000 words dude couldn't rack his brain to make a decent plot.
I feel a mix of pity and disgust when reading his shit. Trying to act like he's some grand bad mofo when he's just a splurg-lord who wrote a shitty fanfic in a game and wasted a lot of people's time, and double-down on his bad habits. I'd rather be someone who tries their best to write good content and have people like my work instead of them looking at my name and immediately losing interest. But that's just me.
Well, thankfully that at least the pronounce debacle got sorted not soon after. The way Kiyoko/Kinu case so violently went against rest of the game was him probably at his most stubborn.
Oh yeah. Savin wasn't going to let that shit slide if the coc 2 made an enemy out of the lgbt community, they would be pretty cooked.
Now I know this wasn't for me but lemme help you out with this:

To spice up verb game a bit
It kind of reminds me of how Disco Elysium was developed. Except it worked. The writers got to show their unfiltered bias towards the stuff that they liked. But other writers within the group were allowed to write options or different outlooks for those scenes so the player could select what theu jived with. So you could have an option that totally agreed with that writer's extreme take. And you could have an option that destroys that take with a critique or an alternate understanding.
Tobs doesn't even want to entertain that, its his way and that's it, player agency and roleplay be damned.
Tobs: “My work challenges modern sensibilities!”
Reality: You wrote a glorified Imperial Japan fanfic where no one can disagree with you because the protagonist’s brain is set to ‘obedient sponge.’
Players: “Can I be a character now?”
Tobs: “No. That would ruin my artistic vision. Sit there and take it while your magically aged daughter fucks my self-inserts and tells me how much she haaaates you.”
I hate this fucking poser, dude. He reminds me of a teacher's pet kid from school who usually got his answers right and thought he was smarter than everyone else, but lost his shit when a lazy student decided to get a higher score than him for the lols. He was a real stubborn prick.
I need to reiterate that I have no problems with conflict, without it there's no way to move story or develop character.
I have issues that there's no way to resolve it, positively or negatively, like with the kitsune's racism, or whatever shit is going on up in the Rift. It just remains in an unsatisfying limbo.
It's just lazy and half-assed really. Like I don't think any future work they get on will become better because the problem isn't us 'haters' or having to make new content every month, it's them. They let shit fall off the rock and sink into the water. Not just in game but with bug reports, commisions, and who knows what else? It still grinds my gears how there's no satifisfaying corruption in the sequel to CORRUPTION of champions.
